Dashcam stuck in last century
When I began doing more commuting earlier this year, I got this dashcam to ensure I was protected in the event of a crash. It came in a small box, was in great condition, and was easy to set up. I never felt the need to hardwire it to my car because I don’t care about the GPS or ADAS capabilities. Thus I’m just using it for the camera, and my review reflects that.Pros:I appreciate that LG makes a package where you get both front and rear facing cameras instead of having to add one on later. Mounting the cameras to my windshield was a bit of a chore, but they stuck on there really well, so I’d never be worried about them falling off. I found the camera to be pretty good during daylight hours - it’s easy to pick out faces and license plates on the display. It gives me peace of mind to know I can rely on the camera to record before and after the collision even if I’m not in the car. All I have to do to access the footage is take out the SD card and plug it into a laptop, which is a pretty easy setup.Cons:I have to say that this product confuses me in more ways than one. Since it doesn’t stream footage anywhere (not my phone, not my laptop, not the cloud), that the clips are only stored on the SD card sitting within the camera. Doesn’t this feel like a bad idea? If I got in a wreck and the camera was destroyed… well there went all the evidence. Also, on a trends-related note, *so many* camera products now have apps for your phone for streaming footage. What’s more is that my Macbook Pro doesn’t even have a SD slot! It feels like this product just hasn’t yet caught up with the times. The night vision is fairly bad, and I can only really see things if I’m around streetlights. The talking and noises the unit does are just plain annoying and unnecessary. It also seems the cameras are more sensitive than they should be - any time I slam a door or walk in front of the car, the recording begins. All in all, it just doesn’t seem like a well thought out product. While it may work wonders for some, I don’t think I could recommend it.

Quality Dashcam setup with some minor issues
The LG dual dashcam delivers on much of what it promises, with a few annoyances.Pros:- The sticky mounts for both the front and rear cameras are excellent. They hold well and I was able to move the rear camera after initial placement without any problems.- The image quality is fairly good. Of course the quality goes down a bit at night, but that's to be expected.- For the most part, the unit records when it should: While driving it records in 40 second increments. While parked it records in 20 second increments when it detects movement or an impact to the vehicle.- The desktop software for viewing the recordings is excellent and easy to use (this requires removing the SD card from the unit and placing it in a computer). The software in pre-loaded on the SD card, so you just plug in the card and it's easy to install. You can save full videos or still shots to your computer.Cons:- The instructions are as simple as could possibly be. As someone who has never installed anything like this before, I wish they provided more information. For example, it gives a bit of info on installing the wiring to the car's fuse box. It would have been nice to mention that many cars have multiple fuse boxes so we could determine the correct one, and it would be nice if it listed the voltage each wire should connect to.- The rear camera wire plugs directly into the front camera/display unit. This means you have to run 2 wires (rear wire and power) to the front camera. They should have a way to combine the wires so only one has to run to the front camera.- Only 3 wire clips are included and one failed on me just over a week after installation. I ordered a pack of other ones that are doing the job well.- Both the front and rear cameras have white lights that blink when recording. It's nice for me to know it's working, but I'd prefer it didn't announce itself to everyone else so blatantly.- The camera records every "impact" to the vehicle. Unfortunately, this includes every time a car door is shut, and occasionally speed bumps.- Occasionally the device does not automatically start and enter "driving mode" when I begin driving. I simply turn the unit off and on again and it works. (The power switch is easily accessible.)
