Thom's review of Media Blasting and Metal Preparation
Well, it really was a good book. Well written and full of good information. Not 5 stars, because I was hoping for more on metal preparation other than the media blasting. On media blasting it was very thorough, covering equipment, materials, and techniques. On techniques, the problem was that it was, probably by nature of the task, short on specifics. It was more general guide to rules and practice. Now, with only one project waiting(and waiting and ...) to be worked on and I screw up blasting what next? Yes, the author recommends getting an expert to do what you(I) can't. But that's not why I was interested in the book. Well the information is still good and does help in planning how the project will proceed, including what will have to be farmed out. And that is good information to have!

A great background of metal preparation shared with the inexperienced.
When I got my hands on this book I knew it was going to be something I really wanted to learn about as a collector of old outboard motors. I don't do restoration work but want to get started and I thought this book would be a helpful aid. I was right. The Author, Matt Joseph has an extensive amount of experience and it shows in his guide. Between detailed information and well utilized photographs, I now feel I could delve into the arena of restoration with a good reference to help me. I would recommend this book for not only car enthusiasts, but also anyone that wants to restore items that are metal.

Very informative.
An American publication but still relevant in the UK. A 'real how' to book ,not only covering blasting media but other methods of rust/paint removal. Very good clear colour photos of equipment, tools and work in progress. This book is full of the informationyou need to get the job done. Recommend .

Feel like they could give more info on blasting settings and ...
Very basic stuff, you get more info from u tube. Feel like they could give more info on blasting settings and show more media blasting examples for different types of media and the results on different surfaces using different nozzle and pressure types. Basically useful blasting info you dont get in a manual. The main example of the book spends entire chapters on the guy soda blasting an old truck. which in my experience is a complete waste of expensive media to get very slow results. Someone needs to do a better book on surface prep.
