## Description

Used by professional lawn care companies and nurseries. Wonderful for serious gardeners who want to check the ph. level in their garden. This soil ph. meter is simple and easy to use. Test your soil with accuracy and ease to determine if you need to adjust soil acidity. The ph. scale ranging from 0 to 14 is used to indicate acidity and alkalinity. A ph. of 7.0 is neutral, values below 7.0 are acid, and those above are alkaline. The lower the ph. the more acid is the soil. The higher the ph., the more alkaline. The ph. values of some common items are: Pure water, 7.0: Lemon juice, 2.2 to 2.4, orange juice, 3.4 to 4.0, fresh milk, 6.3 to 6.6, mild soap solution, 8.5 to 10.0, most Ontario soils, 4.5 to 8.0. Soil ph. is important chiefly because of the many effects it has on biological and chemical activity of the soil, which effects the metabolism of your plants. Review: Solid products - A pH soil meter that is quick & easy to use, is accurate and is highly durable - what more could one want? The only "negative" is that only tests for a relatively narrow pH range, albiet this is the range most typical gardeners are concerned about. Very few plants like alkaline conditions, so testing for anything above a 7.0 isn't very useful anyway. For what it does, it's hard to beat the Kelway - I've tried a number of cheapo (some not so cheap) soil testers and I'm rarely confident in their accuracy. But with the Kelyway, after I've watered the plants, I take a couple of quick readings that I can be confident about. With blueberries, the pH range is critical - so when I'm watering and if my soil tests a bit above 5.5, I know I need to add more acidified water immediately. If your goal is to quantify how alkaline your soil is so that it can be lowered to 8.0 or less, the Kelway is not your instrument - but for the rest of us, most of whom are dealing with slightly acidic to neutral soils, the Kelway is ideal.
Review: Works as advertised. - Works well but have to keep the tip cleaned to work properly.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works as advertised.

Works well but have to keep the tip cleaned to work properly.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Easier to read the simple dial, but I don't like the "conditioning pads"
*by B***Y on November 8, 2025*

The quality seems pretty good. I bought it primarily because of the simple dial. I thought the higher price would mean better quality, but now I think it is overpriced and overy complicated. I didn't realize that they give you a couple of "conditioning pads" (like a thin paper thing) that you have to rub it on before it can work. I also didn't realize that it dosen't work unless it goes a certain depth. The tip is fat enough that it just doesn't work well in our hard and rocky soil. I wouldn't buy it again.
