Yarn gets stuck on the sides of the holder. I tried everything and it just became frustrating. The whole point is to not stop and fool with your yarn constantly. I threw it in the trash because returning something that's not amazon prime is a real ordeal.

I do luv this box when working with crochet thread spools. I can't imagine that it would work with a skein of yarn, unless made into a ball.This is a nice wooden box, with the top sliding back (as pictured) for storage of small items. inside storage area measures approx 4.25x6"x2.25".However, with the box I received it seems that the small wooden "pins" that you insert into the predrilled holes, for the 2 side pieces, were drilled to large making the side pieces wobble when pulling on the thread. I'm sure they can be glued into place, however, personally I want the option to store flat so I used a rubber band to place appropriate tension. It works great. After leaving that review my money was refunded very quickly.Even with that I would recommend this product.

I wanted this to be the answer to my crochet thread nightmares. But sadly it is not. First of all, all of the parts were inside of the box (which I understand, is probably the most efficient way to package). Second the lid had been smashed in and couldn't be slid open with out some sort of tool. Third, by the time I was able to get the lid off, it was clear that the lid had been forced in to place in the first place. None of the pieces fit together and the entire thing wasn't even able to be used. Return incoming.
