Directed by Norman J. Warren, this film is a graphic and horrifying sci-fi promising torrid lesbian sex, cannibalistic feasts, and a canine-like alien in search of a food source.

It only gets 2 stars because it's cut
According to IS IT UNCUT magazine #6, this is missing 11 seconds. I've seen the Comet VHS tape and have also seen the ending on a movie called TERROR ON TAPE which is a compilation of horror clips. The ending gore sequence on this DVD ( the only gore scene that's shown on-screen) is noticeably shortened. There's some other gore scenes in the film, but you just see the aftermath. This censoring of this gruesome and effective sequence damages the film. The movie itself is about a lesbian couple who encounter an alien in human form. They allow the man who appears to be injured to stay with them at there exquisite mansion that's isolated in the forest. When he transforms into the alien, only his nose, eyes and teeth change; he doesn't really look like an alien. There's some topless and rear nudity, as well as a little bit of full frontal during the violent ending sex sequence. A lesbian scene is shown, but it's dimly lit. The film has a low body count, is talky in some parts, and it basically concentrates on filming the forest locations along with the rich mansion and providing character development with these 3 people. It's interesting the way that they develop a relationship with this guy who is clearly strange and not sane. I thought the directing was good because I like Norman J Warren, but it's a slow film that is also cut towards the end.The DVD quality overall is very good, but I thought it could've been a little brighter. You also get a director's interview. I've seen that this film has been released again by Redemption, but I don't know if it's complete for sure because I've never watched it. The British censors typically cut sexually violent scenes, so it might be exactly the same. This review is for the 2004 Image DVD release. Here's an update. I recently got the uncut Blu-ray from VINEGAR SYNDROME. The quality is fantastic. It looks like a whole new movie. That lesbian sequence is now so bright and clear, and it reveals some full frontal nudity. The ending gore sequence is now fully uncut. This release gets 5 stars. The great quality lets you get a nice look at all the scenery and nudity, as well as the gore. The excellent quality is important for a film like this because of the locations and nude scenes. I personally thought it was a really involving film now, and it didn't seem to me like it was slow moving anymore. The menu screen has animation and sound, and the extras are all good.

Gorey Weirdness
Weird ass 70's British alien movie with badass payoff at the end. It was a little slow and talky but i couldn't stop watching it. Give it a shot. The commentary track is very informative.

Underappreciated bit of '70s Brit horror. Very well-done and "tightly" done - only a handful of characters with the action and relationships all centered around a remote country house.

It's a Warren! This wonderfully odd film has never looked better. Vinegar syndrome does it again.

Warren presents more weirdness!
I’ve reviewed a few of Norman J. Warren’s films now, and I thought I would review Prey. Norman J. Warren’s movies usually tend to be a little bit offbeat and this is no exception. Prey is basically a low budget sci-fi/horror movie. The story is set in and around a house in the country. One night, a spaceship lands in the middle of the woods around the house. It turns out that an alien is in the ship and he hunts down a couple who have parked their car in the woods and devours both of them, then assumes the guy’s form. This means that we know from the start that he is somewhat of a shapeshifter. When he reverts to his true alien form, his face changes, but his body doesn’t.We then move to the inhabitants of the country house. A young lesbian couple, Jessica and Josephine, live there. We quickly discover that Josephine is clearly the dominant one in the relationship – she is quite jealous and aggressive in manner and nature. Jessica is the softer, shyer and kinder one and she longs to mix with other people, but Josephine prefers it to be just the two of them. This has created a bit of a power shift in the relationship where Josephine is always in control. They eventually discover the alien in the woods who was injured after his spaceship crashed. He has assumed the name “Anders” after overhearing the name of the male that he killed in the woods. Jessica talks Josephine into taking Anders in because he is hurt and she wants some company. Josephine begrudgingly agrees. This is when the story develops deeper. Anders has no idea what people are like, but he is quite skilled at picking things up and is able to act somewhat “normal” at times. Jessica is clearly interested in Anders and Josephine is jealous of this, but she eventually ends up wanting Anders to stay too, which creates a strange love triangle and friendship between the three of them. The only problem is that Anders can’t quite seem to quell his nature of devouring living things…..The interesting thing about this relationship is that all three of these characters are odd, offbeat and alone in their own ways, which, strangely enough, makes them perfect for each other. We also get a lot of character development from them. For example, for an alien, Anders is surprisingly insightful at times – at one point he confides in Jessica that he knows she feels trapped. Josephine is jealous of Anders, but she also recognizes that he is different like her and that they have something in common. Meanwhile, Jessica feels torn between Anders and Josephine. So, how does this story end? Watch this film and find out. This film is definitely low budget and some of the special effects are a bit dodgy, but I genuinely enjoyed it as it presents original ideas and I couldn’t stop watching it. The three actors also give it their all and I was able to empathize with their characters. There is also a scene that takes place in a filthy pond that was so dirty that all three actors had to have injections – now that’s commitment for you.Vinegar Syndrome have done a great job on this Blu-ray and the picture and colors are rich and sharp. Optional English subtitles are also provided, so if you are looking for a copy of this film, then I would recommend that one.

You get what you pay for---
This movie was included in a "50 Killer Creature" movie set which I paid around $10 for---or about 20 cents/movie. The plot line has been pretty well covered by other reviewers, and my main interest in the picture is that one of the actresses reminds me of a girl I dated in high school. Having said that----it struck me as a drive-in quality picture. Low budget, not particularly scary, and not entirely believable. As an example, the two policemen are killed fairly early on, but no one follows up on their disappearance. And really-----if you meet a stranger who is described as "quirky" at best, and "possibly insane" at worst-----are you going to invite him into your house to stay with you?? A reminder that the Americans and Japanese of the 50s didn't have a monopoly on bad science fiction movies. I doubt I will watch it a second time, but I only have 20 cents invested in it, and as I said before----you get what you pay for----

Humans are high in protein and easy prey!
An extraterrestrial being assumes the identity of a man named Anderson. He encounters a lesbian couple who he stays with. His mission is to study human behaviour as potential prey. Meanwhile the relationship between Josephine and Jessica is unhealthy. Josephine has a possessive nature and is practically imprisoning Jessica. Jessica suspects that Josephine murdered a friend of theirs. Jessica and Josephine notice a peculiarity about Anderson due to his poor social skills and that he doesn’t eat. Jessica suspects that Anderson is dangerous.Prey is a film that explores human behaviour and confinement. This film is about human vulnerability jealousy and mental illness.A film directed by Norman J. Warren.Prey is a fascinating experience.

Some extras but the same
Having reviewed the earlier release of this film I was hoping that this one was the longer original version but sadly it is not. Although the run time is given as 85 minutes it is actually the same 77 minutes as before. The extras include a stills gallery and commentaries by Norman J. Warren and Sally Faulkner. Two women, Jessica and Jo take in a strange man who stumbles into their home. He appears to be an amnesiac who cannot explain himself. Soon, nasty things begin to happen yet the women entertain the man in their home unaware of his real intensions which become clear at the end of the film. If you have not seen any of Mr Warren's work then this one is probably his best effort while the lovely Glory Annen is worth seeing at any time.

Horror
Norman J Warren had little or no budget for this movie so he uses his characters and locations to full effect in this nasty little offering. An alien studying Earth stumbles upon an isolated house in the country inhabited by two young women who take him in thinking he has been involved in a car accident. They soon begin to flirt and play mind games with him but boy are they in for a nasty surprise.Filmed in England this is a decent film from Warren but if you are looking for a real shocker check out his other alien movie "Inseminoid".

Fish out of water with bite
Having seen a few of Norman J. Warrern's films, this is probably his best effort. It is low-budget certainly and has only three main characters but the unfolding of the plot makes for an interesting little piece. This film runs for only 77 minutes. As far as I am aware, the original 85 minute version was only available on American VHS tape. There is also a French version called Le Zombie venu D'Ailleurs but because that runs at PAL speed, it is 72 minutes. The only UK edition seems to be the one in the Norman J. Warren Coffin Box Collection. Two lesbians, a dominating Jo (Sally Faulkner) and the subservient Jessica (Glory Annen) bring into their house, unknowingly, an alien being (Barry Stokes). This starts to tear the women apart, Jo becoming rather manic and Jessica wanting to break away. All the while the alien is doing his work. It all comes to a head at the end when the alien leaves us in no doubt about his true motives. There are good performances from the cast with some good scenes such as the dinner party with the alien dressed in womens clothes and the drowning scene in the pond. Glory Annen is always good to look at. The pond that was used for the drowning scene was so filthy and toxic that the three actors had to have all sorts of injections afterwards. That's dedication.
