Considered together, the first three albums of Tonbruket form a consistent trajectory. 'Tonbruket', 'Dig It To The End' and 'Nubium Swimtrip' are an indivisible whole, in which the band remained true to its vision to take conventional jazz formats and shift them in the direction of instrumental rock music. Before they embarked on their new album, however, the four decided to recharge their creative batteries. Thus their fourth album 'Forevergreens' represents a new beginning for Tonbruket. Tonbruket's music has always been uncategorizable by genre, but on 'Forevergreens' they have left even that impalpability behind. Some of the tracks are extremely soft and gentle, romantic, acoustic, jazz-inspired, while others use prog rock as a springboard from which to make the short leap into heavy metal. 'Forevergreens' is both the quietest and the loudest of their albums. They have never ventured quite so close to jazz nor have they strayed quite so far from it. Norwegian pop-diva Ane Brun, who has had Tonbruket as her backing band for a while now, features on two tracks.

This is an album band - very special to experience.
If you're an E.S.T. fan, Tonbruket is a fascinating journey into the bassist's musical sensibilities. This is the fourth issue thus far and certainly a solid addition to their catalogue. The primary writer for the band is the lapsteel/guitarist as soundly demonstrated in the earth-moving sophomoric release: "Dig it to the End." (Still my favorite thus far.) Forevergreens is a great listen to the patient music lover willing to follow a band's evolution, listen to full album versus downloading an App and punching "give me happy music." No, Tonbruket is for real players and real lovers of music who understand how special the interactions within an ensemble can truly be.

A Genuine Pleasure
Tonbruket continue to blaze their own trail with their latest offering Forevergreens. Compared with previous releases this is more mellow and relaxed with the exception of a couple of raunchy tracks which help to ensure you stay focused. Tonbruket have generated their own unmistakable sound and prove that they can combine many styles and genres that can happily live together on one recording. The various textures are provided by an eclectic choice of instrumentation particularly Johan Linstrom's pedal steel guitar and the rich tones of guest musician Anna Hogberg's Baritone saxophone.Tonbruket continue to explore different soundscapes and that is why I will continue to buy their recording - something different every time - a genuine pleasure.

Dan Berglund and his band are definitely one of the best groups out there and although they always keep their recognisable sounds they can always change genre between albums. Definitely a worth buy!
