A MUST READ for Chief Legal Officers of Public Co's
This handbook is exceptional. I find myself falling into it whenever I reach for it and I haven't found a subject that's not addressed in a practical manner, with a nod to the past and a view to the future to make boards better. This is a MUST READ for public co directors, CEOs, corp secretaries, chief legal officers, and woke CFOs.The writing style is clear, crisp, not dry textbook. There is a stunning cast of contributors and authors who have provided incredible insight and advice, and the handbook is bristling with rich resource references. Lots of great tools, e.g., one robust one for reviewing an org's D&O insurance program, infividual director indemnifcation, and what to require from a broker.I've also purchased the Kindle version b/c the hardback is a chunky fellow that I keep on a side table at my home rather than cart it around like I truly want to.Professor Leblanc, this handbook has pride of place in my reference arsenal. Many many thanks for assembling it!

I particularly liked the way the content is organised
I bought the book a few months ago and I have had pleasure in navigating through its content for the insights it provides. I particularly liked the way the content is organised, the numerous practical exhibits illustrating the points made, and the innumerable references provided. As an internal audit professional gaining further insight into the broader issues confronted by the Board, sometimes highlighted from a different view point than I had expected, was enlightening - sometimes not - or would have liked to see more... but any book can only offer so much, should it not be sized as the Encyclopedia Britannica. All in all, a much recommended reference book!

An outstanding Handbook of Board Governance, truly comprehensive in scope and deep in rich content. This book includes a wide range of top authors all current in the finer points of their respective topics on good governance--all 39 topics. When combined with a great Editor, this book is a winner for the serious student, practitioner, executive or director/trustee. Well done.

Not a handbook
There are alot of articles in this book but I found it not to be presented or useful as a handbook. It's been sitting on my library shelf for a few years and I've never opened it. My go to is Directors Duties in Canada by Barry Reither.

A well structured book
The way the book is structured and the extent it covers is amazing.

Three Stars
Some good info, but not in concise format. Almost 900 pages!

Five Stars
Great book for researchers - but quite academic for some practitioners.

It’s a collection of discrete articles. I did not find it to be a handbook
I found this book very disappointing. Rather than an encompassing and systematic treatment of governance it was collection of articles, none of which treated the issue I needed help with. Tried to return it the very day I received it but Amazon protocol indicated I would have had to return it the prior day.

Used for a class…
…but this would be great reading for anyone preparing to be on a board or looking to take their board's game up a notch. Also, FWIW, Version 2.0 is due out May, 2020.
