If you walk on the balls of your feet they’re fairly effective.
If you hit heel first these are pretty much useless and even hitting the ball of your foot first doesn’t always stop the slipping. They’re much more effective in preventing a slip as you’re landing your foot but not so when stepping forward unless you’re careful to plant the cleats first… which is not normally how I walk on ice. Using a sliding motion was better than a normal walking gate but there’s not much of a cleat on this to bit much into the ice. My heel tends to hit first so these aren’t all that effective and I’ll need to get something that has more foot coverage. For the price of about 12-bucks it’s certainly better than nothing and they go on easily over my snow boots. If there’s wet snow over the ice, as there is normally in my drive, it will compact and freeze and then I had to clean them out which is a pain when running a snow blower.

Pretty good
Over the winter I had to toss my yaktrax I bought at a garage sale over the summer. The rubber strap on one of the cleats broke. I decided to try to find a pair of cleats for my boots that were not made out of rubber. I opted for shoe ice cleats. I haven't had any problems with these cleats so far. I like that the straps are nylon and not rubber. Walking across icy streets and sidewalks aren't a problem. I will say that they are best worn outside. Walking inside on non-carpeted floors is annoying like in big box stores such as Target but overall they do the job for walking across slippery surfaces outside. Next season though I will invest my money in a better pair of cleats.

Great On Ice; Dangerous In Snow Over Ice
These are great on ice: good grip and easy to attach/remove over a rug to keep from damaging wood floors. However, on a layer of snow over ice, they are worse than bare boots. The cleats themselves are only about 1/4 inch long. When you walk on snow with these cleats, the snow is compacted into a layer that becomes thicker than the cleats are long. The result is that you slip and slide like crazy over the ice below the snow.Perhaps this is unavoidable. I would like to see the manufacturer try longer cleats, maybe a half inch or longer if this is feasible. Otherwise, I would not recommend wearing them in snow over ice.

They seem to work pretty well. The one thing I like about them ...
I just tried the shoe ice cleats after an icy mess this morning, on a very icy flat driveway. They seem to work pretty well. The one thing I like about them is the ease that they go on with using the Velcro fasteners. The last type I tried had rubber band base that went under shoe. With a wide foot it was difficult to put on and take off in the car. These are easy to remove and are very light. All your foot weight is directly over the cleats when you step creating a good contact with the icy surface. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

safety is more important at my age
now that I'm in my 60's I worry more about injury from a fall, It seems to hurt more to. these ice grippers are perfect for anyone who needs assurance and stability on slippery surfaces esp. ice. the Midwest saw so much ice last winter and the hardware stores were sold out in my area as soon as they'd get a shipment in. I recommend you get a pair, and put them where you keep your out door boots. whether you walk on sidewalks or out to feed the chickens like me, it's much better than pain and suffering. A good investment now that can save you much when you need them.

Great for icy snow
I bought these so I could navigate the trails I use for walking our two dogs. They completely changed where I can go now in the winter! I was surprised at how stable I felt walking on higher ground. They are adjust with a Velcro strap and didn’t slip very much. My feet even with boots don’t require a large strap but you can adjust the size. I feel for the price they are a bargain.

Worked well if you step on the ball of your foot first.
These did a good job of keeping me from falling on the ice. Since they only cover the front part of the foot you have to step down so that you step on the spikes, but that was not a problem for me since I didn't have very far to walk and we just don't get ice and snow here in Oregon that much. If I were to need to wear these all winter I would get something that covers the heel as well.

4 out of 5, great product!
For the price, you really can't beat these ice cleats! I chose these because of the ease and speed of putting them on/taking them off. They work great on ice, I use them walking to work tok as I live in Maine. Buy a couple pairs and leave a set in the car, it's cheaper than falling and possibly hurting yourself or breaking something.4 out 5 stars because they don't cover the whole foot and the spikes are not replaceable.
