Not really set up for the beginner
There is a lot of good information in the book. It really isn't for the beginner. It doe's give some good information. I just found the book a little hard to read and follow.

This is a nice introduction to Aquaponics
This is not a book of plans and detailed instruction on aquaponics systems. It is, however, a summary on the benefits with several case studies on systems that have worked for others, from simple and straight forward to complex commercial set-ups.

Good book
Good pictures but the book is fairly basic. Good place to start for beginners who want to learn how things work.

You get what you pay for
This book was inexpensive, but you don't get a lot of design or theory details here. A primer at best.

Some good points
The book has some good points, but this is written from the perspective of a weekend warrior at best. I usually want a professional opinion first before I decide to become the weekend warrior. Price is commensurate to the quality of the information.

Aquaponics system book
This book has a lot of pictures and shows the steps for setting up of a basic aquaponics system. It does a good job of explaining how to build a system.

Building An Aquaponics System
"Building An Aquaponics System" should be titled "Building An Aquaponics System: One mans journey with no actual instructions". It was a ok read but not what I was expecting from the title.

basic overview of topic.
A minor approach to the topic. Not as in depth as other titles available. Further editions should be expanded to include diagrams and working schematics. Would not recommend.

Could Be a Lot Better
The author has obviously been successful in their aquaponics endeavours, but much of the information in this short manual is out of date, even though it was released less than a year ago. He claims that mechanical aeration is not necessary because of the design he proposes, but I don't think you would have a very healthy system if you didn't provide for extra aeration. Flood and drain or ebb-and-flow growbed design is also no longer considered the most effective method, even in smaller systems. There is also no provision for biofiltration in his design, which I see as a crucial flaw; growbeds are far from ideal to serve this purpose and can easily encourage the growth of anaerobic bacteria if used in this manner. Finally, a lot of the technical terms are not clarified, and for a layperson would be very difficult to follow without further description. There are many leaps in logic throughout and introduction of new ideas without properly explaining how they connect overall. There are many better sources of information out there.

It didn't meet my expectations at all
When I ordered this book -Building an Aquaponics System- I was expecting a clear and precise description of how to build such a system. That is what the Title is promising. Well, I have never read a more confusing book like this one. There are no drawings or clear photos or examples of how to build such a system. No measurements , no clear instructions were given. It is a back and forth of thoughts through the whole book without any order to follow to be able to get something done. As said before very confusing. I have read a few other books to this topic - they were all better than this one. This book is not worth the money.
