Repressing. Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of this 1985 album from the British AOR/NWOBHM band with expanded art work that includes previously unseen live photos and a second disc that contains a six song live performance from 1985. Relatively few people around the world will have ever had the opportunity to see the band live, so this is a nice document of how they sounded in the live arena. With the sad passing of Tobruk vocalist Stuart 'Snake' Neale in December of 2006, this is a timely reminder of how fine this British band was. This release is respectfully dedicated to his memory.

Brilliant, no excuses Hard Rock from the U.K.
"Snake" Earle has such a unique vocal styling that is redolent of a Mark Storace which is probably why I would recommend this to Hard Rock lovers who love a guttural edge with subdued yet, talented keyboards by Jem Davis of Midnight Blue. Their seems to always be a swaggering sound that comes across to the listener as a confident and defiant tone that reflects the very nature of rockers who like to play it loud to rebel against parents and dull-minded society.

METAL OF THE 80s
Very nice album! Get it if you like metal of the 80s and if you're a collector of rock music! Nice tunes especially the title track Wild On The Run. Great guitar works too!

!! "Bon Jovi", meets "Bonfire", meets "Shy" !!
"Wild on the run" is the debut album by British melodic hard rock band "Tobruk" originally released in 1985, reissued by "Majestic Rock" in 2007. The line up features lead singer Stuart Neale, guitarists Nigel Evans and Mick Newman, keyboardist Jem Davies, drummer Alan Vallance and bassist Steve Woodward."Tobruk" played a powerful mixture of guitar/keyboard driven rock which came pretty close to the sound of "Shy" and "Bonfire". You can expect thick drumming, AOR-like bass lines, intense guitar riffs, twin guitar melodies and shredding solos along with "Bon Jovi"-like keyboards. The songwriting on "Wild on the run" is also very strong being straight to the point melodic hard rock that will never have you wait too long for a solid, sing-along chorus. Still "Wild on the run" is not an overly bright concept, as the album bares an underline of pessimism on quite a few of its tracks. Standout tracks include the opening title track, the dramatic "Falling", the dangerous "Running from the night" and the bombastic "Going down for the third time"."Wild on the run" turned out to be "Tobruk"s only album and yet one that holds its own decades past its release. Enthusiast of European melodic hard rock as well as fans of early `80s "Bon Jovi" should make the most of "Wild on the run".

WOW! One of the best albums of 1985!
This band has it all.You want you money's worth in great 80's music, than this is your sure bet.I have to say that there is so much talent in this music, that it is almost unbelievable.Compared to such 80's bands as Europe,Treat and Fate, these guys are undoubtly the best of the best. You have to hear this to understand what I'm saying. It's really that good!1.Wild on the Run(10/10)Great song.Fast, fun and has great guitar work.I've even learned how to play the bass line to this song!2.Falling(10/10)Excellent,Excellent,Excellent!One of the best songs you will ever hear!Has a great chorus line.3.Running from the Night(9/10)More power packed fun!4.Hotline(8/10)Another great song.Has some great bass guitar work, and the vocals sound great.5.Rebound(8/10)Another solid track.Puts today's music where it belongs,in a bottmless pit!6.Poor Girl(10/10)Flawless song! This one rocks so hard.Guitars, vocals, bass all sound sizzling!I love the lyrics!7.She's Nobody's Angel(10/10)So much talent and style that your ears will melt!8.Breakdown(9/10)The guitar work is excellent.More great vocals as well!9.Going Down for the Third Time(10/10)Starts out slow and then burts into an all out attack!10.Wild on the Run(9/10)A bit slowed down, but that's because it's a live version.11.The Show must Go On(9/10)The show must go on indeed!Another great song. They don't make'em like this anymore.I say that this album is a must own. It's a crime if you don't own this.Trust me when I say it's that good.If you like real music that's good(no 90's or today's sh*it,I'm talking about real music of the 1980's)than you must buy this!Every 80's music lover or anyone who has good taste will love this lost metal gem from 1985!

Great melodies and talent from a memorable young band!
I saw this band back in the 80s at Jilly's Rockworld in Manchester and purchased Wild On The Run (WOTR) thereafter. How on earth this band did not become huge is rock music's great mystery, though their second offering Pleasure and Pain demonstrates why! With regards to the 1st reviewer, I'm not sure why the decade it was released is relevant as that particular brand of melodic rock has and will become popular over and over again, just look at the recent success of The Darkness. This band were technically gifted and the plus with WOTR? There wasn't a weak track on it!

Was good in 1985
Today, albums like this sound outdating, repetitive and crap. I would agree with the 5 star reveiwer if we were still in 1985. Nowadays this kind of music is naff.

So Underestimated
I followed Tobruk from their days as a Bedford band called "Force". That line-up completely changed by the time this album was made (except for Rob Newman). The production on this cd appears to have been ramped up a bit compared to the vinyl version, with great effect. I have heard comparisons with early Bon Jovi and I can kind of go with that, but I remember Tobruk were much harder live than on the album. I miss them and thought that they were overlooked at the time when they were in full swing (around the time that this album was recorded). The 2 additional tracks are from the Neat Records single released prior to this album and are a welcome addition. Overall, a great slice of hard rock which anyone interested in melodic rock should have in their collection. Check out the title track, "Falling", "Rebound" (my favourite), "Breakdown" and "The Show Must Go On" (from the single). Classic rock from my home town!

Damn good...and British too!!!
A British Band that should have had the time and exposure to give Bon Jovi a run for their money? Oh yes, you had better believe it, Tobruk were very good in their day. This is a great slice of would be American arena rock, with great catchy songs, good production, and a large degree of talent. We have loads of big guitars, mixed with thunderous drums, some fantastic (but not over the top) keyboard work - all mixed into some well thought out and structured songs with some great hooks/melodies. Some people may find the vocal style not to their taste, but you can always check them out before you buy anyway. There is not really a bad track on the album, with each and everyone being a potential hit single. The re-issued version has a fair amount of bonus tracks on it, including the original Neat Records version of their first single, which is "interesting". They had obviously come a long way since then!!So why weren't they more successful? I guess we will never know but, the sad passing of vocalist Snake (R.I.P) put paid to any comeback.I would advise anyone who likes Y&T, Bon Jovi, Journey, Europe and the like to get this CD.

Love the title track
Remember recording them from the Friday Rock Show and love the title track. Rest of the cd is ok and worth buying if a reasonable price.

Buy!!!

Tobruk - Wild on the Run
