The Silencer connects between the amp's speaker output and the speakers. It gives you total control over what part of the power output will be feed to your speakers. Crank up the amp to the setting were it sounds best and adjust the final volume just for your speakers with the Silencer. All components which are responsible for great guitar tone are still working "cranked up" to your favorite set-up (preamp tubes, driver stage, output tubes, transformers etc.) and deliver great tone. The final volume you hear is adjusted AFTER the amp's output. The power attenuation can be set in convenient 2db steps from FULL power to 16db. From 16db on you can fine adjust to total silence.

Best attenuator and Great for Silent recording
I purchased this really just to see if I could get a better fidelity when recording silently for late night recording. Alternatives I've tried are the Kemper Profiling amp, a Palmer PDI-03 and a Tech 21 VST Ampeg Character series "pre-amp".Really all worked acceptably well. The Kemper profiles are great overall, but they definitely sound processed when compared to any of my real amps into either the Palmer or the TAD. The Palmer I found was a little picky with some amp heads not sounding great through it. Not a problem with the tad. I think the speaker emulation is better vs. the Palmer, so it's my method of choice now. Sounds great when recording bass through a bass pre-amp the one Lehle is making) jacked into the effects loop input of my 45 watt tube guitar amp head. Sounds like a tube bass rig should.
