I bought this knife and the 9.5” Chef knife. I am a very basic cook, and I only use three or four different knives, even though I have the usual variety in the kitchen. After only a few days, these are already two out of the three or four go-to knives. My first impression was that this knife is from a company that has pride and confidence in the quality of its products. Before I received the knife, I received an mail from the CEO thanking me for the purchase and providing hints about caring for the knife. This is the first time I have received a thank you note from a company CEO for a purchase. In addition, the email included useful information about the product and promised future emails with additional helpful information. The packaging is a sturdy, foam lined box with a cutout in the foam and a Velcro strap to secure the knife in place. It serves as storage for the knife so it is not just a sharp blade in a drawer that is not safe, and it keeps the blade from being damaged. The handle is unique in that the front if the handle is tapered into the blade providing a place to position your thumb comfortably while holding the knife. The knife is extremely sharp and cuts bread cleanly, which makes for a very nice presentation.I like the way the design in the handle has a pattern that is similar to the pattern in the Damascus steel blade.I highly recommend this knife and would purchase others from this manufacturer.

Really nice!
Just got the 9" Bread knife. Really stunning and has an excellent "hand feel". The blade is razor sharp as advertised. I have always gotten mid-to-high end german knives (Wustoff, Heinkel) and generally very satisfied with them but this knife has a much better look, heft and feel. I will be replacing my german knives with the Hanzo products if/when needed.Note: The top portion of the blade has what looks like a water-marked film over it which is odd to me. Would like the manufacturer to explain what that is.Also the lettering on the blade is embossed somehow and, when wiping over it, the cloth sticks a bit like its a synthetic film of some kind. Really wish that could be removed.

Great knife
It's really nice looking but I expected it to cut bread better.

Love this, and it's pretty too!
I love this knife! It slices through my homemade sourdough like butter! 1,000 times better than scrunching my bread and sawing through like my old one.

The knife received is 100% Chinese made and has nothing ...
The knife received is 100% Chinese made (ie with Japanese steel maybe?) has nothing to do with true Japanese knives manufacturing cultures about 20-30% heavier than knives made in Japan

sturdy and feels great in your hand
This knife is well made, sturdy and feels great in your hand. I make all our bread home made and this knife never ever mangles my home made loaves like my old knife would. I tell you what a difference having a sharp reliable blade has made. Its so nice its actually made me realize I need to replace all my knives, and I will definitely be purchasing more HANZO ones! Its definitely comparable to other knives at this price point maybe even a little better. The product says its is dishwasher safe, but also recommends hand washing only, which is all we have done, so I don't know how it would actually hold up in the dishwasher, but the good news is when you have something this nice you don't mind babying it a little.

Very high quality
If you can have one bread knife, this is it. A perfect bread knife. Super quality, should last a lifetime. It is made in China but to Japanese standards.

Beautiful and sharp
It’s VG10, and it’s beautiful. Very sharp. Get the adjustable smith sharpener for serrated blades that’s a must.
