We always clean up after cooking, but admittedly had not been removing the gasket when cleaning the lid. Recently we pulled the pot out to use it, opened the lid, and WHOOF! Long story, short, the last thing we'd cooked in the InstantPot was something with intense flavors. Not only had those flavors permeated the gasket, but some residue had been trapped under the gasket, so the next time we pulled the pot for use, the smell was overwhelming. Now, after all this time, we know to pull and wash the gasket after use, and to not store the pot with the lid sealed on it. But, we needed to replace the gasket, because despite giving it a thorough cleaning - including a couple of overnight soaks in a white vinegar solution - the smell remained. I was encouraged to see this gasket marketed as an InstantPot brand accessory. It arrived in sealed packaging bearing the company branding, fit our InstantPot perfectly, and is working great.
