Edit after 6 months:Well, it has been awhile now since we rigged this up, and after many fish and some amazing times the rod has proven itself. On more than a few occasions my son was catching fish when his friends weren't. Not that it's a competition, but at least one of his friends ended up getting a tenkara rod. At this point I would highly recommend this rod for anyone who is thinking about trying fixed line fly fishing. Unless you become an enthusiast this rod could be the only one you will ever need. We have choked up on the rod to cast in tight quarters, used the "bow and arrow" cast to get the fly under brush, and in wide open areas we have cast a 15' line with 5' of tippet to get the fly into pocket water (my son's rod is 8.5'). It handles it all very well.It's been well over a year with this rod now. Fishing Time USA has proven again to be an incredible company who stands behind the rod. My son was packing his stuff into the car for the trip home from the park (Rocky Mountain National Park), when someone closed the door on his rod (not in a tube). It was collapsed at the time, so three sections were broken. I contacted Fishing Time, and they had no problem selling us the replacement sections. A week later he is fishing again. Just the other day he caught 25 rainbows in an afternoon with his rod.Original review:First I will say that this rod cast's the line very well. I have been Tenkara fishing for 6 years, and in that time I have cast a few nice rods. This rod handles the line well, it turns over the fly nicely. Truthfully, it is a joy to cast (much better than I was expecting).The rod is about eight and a half feet long, and my son had no problem casting a fifteen foot line with three feet of 5x tippet. We were fishing a killer bug into a hole in the ice today, so not much action; however, on his second or third cast he had a nice 14" rainbow! Also, the rod seemed fairly sensitive to the gentle strikes you might expect on January 13th.So, while the rod is very fishable, and light in the hand it isn't without some minor cosmetic problems. The blank is a little uneven in its finish, the cork in the grip is nice, but there is a foam ring where there would normally be a winding check on a fly rod. Still, these minor problems are not as important as how it casts, and handles fish.If you are looking for a shorter, 2.7M, rod that will do the job for a decent price this is it. If you need something that has nice finishing touches you may just need to double (or triple) the price to find something more aesthetically pleasing. I think the old saying that you get what you pay for is certainly true with this rod. So for an inexpensive rod it is clear that more focus was put into it's function than form. If you want a beautiful rod it will cost you more, but it may not cast as well. This is not an ugly rod by any means, but it is a bit average in the looks department.

Bought this pole for my grandson to introduce him to fly fishing without the hassle of a reel. He loves it, although not real impressed with putting the fish back in the water (wanted the for dinner!). Great introduction to tenkara fishing.

As described ... the flies were of a better quality than expected, shipping was fast and everything about the functionality of the rod was expected. Cant wait to take it to the stream! Thanks GF USA!

Fish a lot of small creeks and tight spaces. And the more I fish with this setup the more I like it and the better I get.

For someone looking to see what Tenkara is all about, this is a good choice. This won't be my only fishing rod, but it's something I'll use and enjoy.

Perfect for throwing in the pack and hauling in trout up to 15". This rod has some backbone and can easily cast 2 fly rigs.

Much prefer this to the 12-14 ft ones, far easier to manage while on smaller rivers.
