Good for a writer recording interviews to be typed later
For years I have used a suction cup device ( removable telephone pick-up ) to record interviews that I would write up later. Unfortunately for me, it do not record the last two interviews I did, which way stressed me out, and of course caused me a lot of embarrassment, headaches, and those stories aren't going to be as near good as they could have been. So I finally broke down and changed technology to this device. It is 100 times more dependable, and I now wish I had changed 20 years ago. This allows you to record both your voice and the person you are speaking to, whereas the suction cup device really only records the voice of the person you're calling. You can sort of hear your voice, but just barely. Overall, that didn't really bother me, but occasionally, I would think, "Now what did I ask?"If you are a writer doing interviews, this will meet your needs. I am very glad I bought this.

Go with Olympus TP7 -- Recording much clearer!!!
I originally choose this item because I wanted a clear-as-possible recording. Because it connected directly in-line with the phone, it should have produced the clearest recording with minimal static/background noise, right? -- wrong! I received the item, hooked it up to my phone and received a constant low buzz, regardless of whether it was plugged into the microphone jack or not. Flipping the switch from "Rec" to "Play" only made it louder. Also, whenever I pick-up any other phone in the house, the noise was almost unbearable. On notifying the seller, the item was promptly replaced with a new one. It had only slightly better results, but the noise was still there. I then purchased the OLYMPUS TP7, and was surprised beyond my expectations. This product was small, but had a crystal-clear recording with both sides of conversation being heard perfectly. It also works with cell phones and almost anything that you hold to your ear. It also comes with all the necessary audio adapters you might need! (3.5mm mono female to stereo male) Bottom-line, if you're looking for a clear recording, go with the OLYMPUS TP7!!!

Worked for me
It took a little work to get this plugged into both my phone and recorder so that no base hum was apparent. I had to set my digital PCM recorder to 120 Hertz low filter; but I got a clean recording from a voice mail on my phone.I had tried it earlier on my smart phone's recorder, but nothing transferred. The single contact plug on the adapter probably interfered with the 3 contact input the phone was looking for.It lost one star for the need to filter out low band noise.

Will not work with any cordless phone systems - works only with corded phones
See the attached photo of the "hook-up diagram" furnished with this unit (image attached). I'm surprised that nobody seems to use cordless phones, because this item will work ONLY with the old fashioned corded type phones, using the handset jack, not the modular wall phone plug. I don't even own a corded phone anymore and rarely see them for sale, so unfortunately this gadget is useless to me. It would be very helpful to prospective buyers to first look at the "hook-up diagram" furnished with this item. I'm attaching an image for those cordless phone owners who are interested in recording their calls calls.

Records okay but doesn't play
Had to dig out an old phone that had a wired handset to test the device. The Tt System Tele-recorder adapter record feature was okay (recording to a computer) but the play feature did not work at all. I was concerned since the device has a mono plug and the computer microphone input is stereo, but the computer just recorded both channels with the same signal. To test the play I used a stereo MP3 player. I needed a device with both play and record working so this didn't work. I'd recommend saving your money, buying an RJ9 adapter and making your own adapter. You'll spend more money and time trying out adapters that don't work.

Product met my expectations
The product met my expectations. I was looking for a relatively inexpensive way to record a telephone conversation from my land line to my digital voice recorder without using the old suction cup device. I tested it and it appears to work fine. It is made in China from about $3.00 worth of parts; however, being an electronic hobbyist, I doubt if I could build it for less than the purchase price by the time I paid for single parts and shipping.

Hard line phone recorder works fine
I used this for recording a hard line phone ... it will not work for wireless or hand held phones since it plugs into the WIRE going to the handset NOT the wall jack for the phone (they have different frequencies). It works great to just plug into the microphone jack of your computer and record calls using a free recording software called audacity (download at audacity.sourceforge.net it is SAFE). you can also plug it into any other recorder you like.

Dissapointed
Ours stopped working after a few years and only a few brief uses. We baby the cord to keep from damaging it. I'm not sure what the issue is, but now it only records one side of the conversation. I did enjoy it while it worked.
