An inspiring story
This story is one of selfless service for the Lord. The perils faced were severe but not impossible. I learned things about China I never knew. This woman lived her faith. She embodies what missionaries are.

This is a great true story that went well for extra-reading for a unit study on China for homeschool. The story is engaging and suspenseful.

Read this one when I was a kid and wanted to read it to mine. It is an unbelievable adventure, but a true story!

My Daughter is Not Allowed to Read This Book
I thought this book was horrific for elementary school age children. There is a description of a violent fight with an axe over food. There is the fact that Miss Aylward bought a child who she called Ninepence rather than her given name because that was “her price.” I had my daughter return this book to her teacher. My 3rd grade daughter described it as “a dark story with too many details for kids.”

Good book..
I think this is a good, clean story of Gladys Aylward's life.I could tell it was written for a younger audience because it seemed to "glorify" Gladys. It was an extremely Christian text which was nice and encouraging. It wasn't as much a page-turner as the Trailblazer book on her life, but nonetheless, it was good. I recommend this as a read-aloud to kids also.

Second generation is enjoying it now!
I read this as a young girl and now I get to read it with my son! This book awakened my heart for the Lord’s work and started a life long fascination with China and the history of missions there.
