Beginner's Guide to Silk Painting (Search Press Classics) Paperback – August 30, 2016

Mandy Southan's "Beginner's Guide to Silk Painting" is a fine little book that offers a good introduction to silk painting. It is visually beautiful. She even introduces the basic required materials in striking labeled color photos. Mandy Southan also devotes 5 pages to the effects of silk paints and dyes. On the first two, she shows examples of how the paints and dyes interact with each other using different wet and dry methods. She devoted three pages to color mixing in a very neat table format--all very helpful for the beginner. The rest fo the book is devoted to 14 silk painting projects all with a variety of resist methods. At the end of the book, she has a helpful illustrated glossary and an illustrated page listing common mistakes. Exactly what I was looking for, to guide me into a new hobby.This book sets out the basics of silk painting, and gives you enough instruction to get you started without overwhelming you.It is clearly written and easy to understand with plenty of diagrams and additional information to take you further as you progress.It helps you to outline your first project and gives you some hits and shortcuts to save you grief and to build your confidence.Now to go shopping for some supplies. :)Great Starter Guide - Highly Recommended.Beginner's Guide to Silk Painting (Search Press Classics)

Excellent book - especially for beginning and intermediate silk painters! I have several books on silk painting, and this book, although simple, is one of the best. After seeing a painted silk piece in a musuem, I wanted to learn to make my own. I watched a lot of YouTube videos, but this book really helped to walk me through the process step-by-step. This book is very good for beginners. Wish I had this book BEFORE I started painting. Covers the basics and has very good instructions and photos. If you are intermediate, this book reinforces what you know but doesn't really add anything- and doesn't purport doing so. Glad I got it, will give to my mom who wants to try but doesn't want lessons from me. Lol!

A very useful tool to start following the path of silk-painting. Detailed and well-explained techniques, nice pictures and projects.

For a beginner's guide, there is much missing information and the step by step demonstrations are missing some details. I expected more from a beginner's guide.

Very informative. Tells you what you need to know to start silk painting. Even if you don't want to do the projects listed, read through them. There is valuable information on most every page.

ANOTHER GREAT BOOK BY MANDY SOUTHAN. THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE EASY TO FOLLOW AND THE PAINTINGS ARE BRIGHT AND COLORFUL. SHE HAS SOME GREAT IDEAS IN THE BOOK. I LOVE PAINTING SCARVES!
