I chose the concentrates because they come out to be much less expensive than their ready-to-drink counterparts. I ordered each brand's regular brew and, if the brand had it, their dark one as well. When tasting I only used them for iced coffee since most people use the concentrates for iced coffee. After tasting all of them I ordered them all again to see if what I felt about the different brands had changed. I eventually narrowed it down to the two concentrates that had the tag "desertcart's Choice." I made sure to measure everything that went into the coffees so that they were always identical including the concentrate, cold water, and creamers, half and half, and/or milk added. Each one was tested as a 16 ounce drink that was cold but without ice so I had the full experience of it and I had at least a dozen full glasses of each I tasted just to be certain the taste didn't change over time. Cappio won for me because it is rich and strong yet very smooth. Often a stronger flavor can have a bite which comes from acidity. Unlike the other desertcart's Choice, Cappio is a cold brew. Cold brews are noted for being less acidic. The other brand was listed as organic and not a cold brew but it seemed to have a slightly odd aftertaste, enough so that I noticed it with every glass. It did not remind me of any coffee notes I had ever tasted so it is hard for me to explain it. It just tasted wrong. It reminded me a bit of the metallic aftertaste I get from artificial sweetness though this was not metallic but every bit as distinctive. Also, while the Cappio is $1-$2 more for the same amount as the others, I found that the fullness of the flavor allowed me to dilute it further so the price comes out the same. Both brands state that you use one part concentrate to two parts cold water or milk. With the Cappio I would use 4 ounces of concentrate to 10 ounces of cold water and still had a strong rich coffee. I tried this ratio with the other brand and it was just watery. Overall, though, it was the odd aftertaste of the other brand and the rich flavor of Cappio that made Cappio win out for me. I love the Cappio's concentrate and won't be changing. I also found the Cappio concentrate to be less expensive if purchased in a multi-pack deal like this one. Its actually really easy. I worked at starbucks for 12 years. All you do is grind some decaf instead of regular coffee for whatever filter you will use.( Its easiest if you buy what's called a toddy maker, but you dont have to get one, I dont use one but I've been doing this a long time.) Most likely paper filter. Whatever amount you grind, say 2 cups worth, than you will only use 1 cup of water. And you just pour the water (room temp.) AMD soak overnight for 12 hours.drain the coffee and there you go..when using room temp/colder type water, it makes the acidity on the coffee out and makes for a smooth coffee. You also want to make sure you get the right type of coffee depending on what you want to do with your coffee. If you're goifn take mochas and or add vanilla or whatever dont want to fo with an African blend coffee because of the citrus notes on it. An Arabian coffee would be good for that. So just take into consideration the different regions of where coffee s grown and you can get am idea...its also REALLY important to make sure it's the correct grid for the filter you use. If you are using a paper filter than you dont want to use am espresso grind because it's too powdery and than makes it harder to pass through the filter. And would make your coffee taste way too bitter and strong. When you use your coffee you can store in the fridge or room.temp for up to a week. Use 1 part coffee to 1or2parts liquid, just add what you feel taste good to you.
