Everything about cheese combinations and making them look pretty. Great pictures. Interesting enough text that my son bought his own copy instead of just borrowing mine!!!

This book is essential for anyone who loves cheese and wants to make a spectacular cheese plate. Pairings are inventive and delicious. They can also serve as inspiration for your own pairings. I highly recommend it!

Generally speaking, this is a good book. It is well laid out and written in a laid back, informal style which makes for easy reading. It has plenty of pictures of cheeses and completed accompaniments.The word "composing" is part of the title. There is a difference between composing a piece of music and playing someone else's music. I do feel that this book is lighter on the composing than it could have been and heavier on playing someone else's music.If you are looking for more of a recipe book for creating imaginative and adventurous accompaniments for cheese plates with some information about cheeses/cheese making this is the book for you. It has some incredible recipes that really do make you want to try them jut for the culinary adventure of it.Be advised, however, they focus a lot on pairing with local and more unique cheeses; cheeses which may not be widely available to everyone who purchases the book. They do offer suggestions for substituting with more mundane cheeses (like what you might be able to find at Earthfare or Whole Foods), but even those suggestions sometimes state the flavor profile of appropriate substitute cheeses rather than the type of cheese so if you are new to cheeses you may be left scratching your head wondering what a "nutty, mild" cheese is.If you are looking for a book "about" cheese, you may want to try to find something else. While this book does contain some very useful information about cheese it is usually just 2 or 3 pages at the beginning of each chapter before going into recipes for accompaniments.I was really looking for a book describing the various types/categories of cheeses, how they are made, what the flavor profiles of different cheeses are, and HOW to pair them (not just tell me WHAT to pair them with). For instance, if a cheese has an "A" flavor profile you should look for pairings that have a "B" flavor profile because "X,Y,Z". It does have some of this type of information, just not the amount I was really looking for.Overall, am I dissatisfied with this book? Not really. It is a good and useful book, just not quite what I was looking for. Again, its main focus is the Whats (recipes) with shorter blurbs about the Whys.I would say it is less on composing and more on playing.

More recipes than I thought there would be. Great suggestions for a fun and flavorful entertaining.

Best book about cheese ever! I love the photos and the recipes. I've bought several to give as presents.

I bought 2 of these, one for a birthday present and the other for a Christmas present, the friend who has got theirs already said it is fascinating. Not only does it have some wonderful ideas for cheese pairings, it explains about the cheese, so you can learn more about your own cheese palate. I am going to buy one for myself now!
