Size:Medium This beautifully designed donkey silhouette, grazing in the field unaware of the miracle happening near him adds so much to the peaceful feeling of this outdoor nativity display. He is cut from the same durable, UV protected, solid, marine grade PVC I use for the nativity. The donkey's story is a testament to how perfectly things work out when they are simply meant to be. In July of 2009, as I was driving to the store one day I started to think about the night Christ was born. I started to think about how quiet it must have been there. Earlier that summer we had gone "horse camping" and I remembered laying in the tent, just before falling asleep and the only sound I could hear was the horses roaming around, chewing on the grass. And I realized, that at those quiet moments in the manger they would have still had the noises of the animals. I know some people think the animals would have been aware of the miracle happening near them but I tend to think that they would have simply been living their lives, doing what animals do. And that is so peaceful to me. Peaceful is the word I keep coming back to when I think of the nativity. So at that moment I decided that I needed to add the donkey and he needed to be grazing, out in the field on his own. So, I started working on a drawing. Just about the time I was done (in fact, I think it was the same day) I got a phone call from David (the guy who manages the people who cut the nativity parts out for me. He said, "I was thinking about your nativity set Carolyn, and you have a little empty space on the sheet we cut the manger from. I think you should add a donkey". Before that moment, I hadn't even thought about fitting my donkey onto the cut sheet. But, he fit. Almost exactly. I think I had to move one of his feet ½" and cut a little of his mane off. But other than that, he almost exactly filled the space I had available.

Great Addition to Ms. Carolyn Bell's Outdoor Nativity Collection
I purchased this large donkey to go with my nativity scene that includes Mary and Joseph, the manger and the shepherd set. Again it the donkey is a terrific addition because you can turn it in any direction to fit in with your ensemble. It's made out of the same material that the rest of the pieces in this collection. What is especially impressive on the donkey is its realistic look because Ms. Bell was able to cut it to show hair the donkey's hair!

Nice addition to my nativity scene!
I bought the donkey for the 2015 Christmas season. I used it with a nativity seen I already had and it worked perfect. These products are very sturdy and did well through a couple of heavy rain and wind storms while displayed. It was very easy to pack away and I can't wait to display it again this year during the Christmas season.

Very happy, looks great---Great Quality, sturdy
Remember to keep the box so you can store after xmas. Warning ---You will need stakes--I bought some rebar and cut them to size--this is a bit of a pain if you do not have someone to cut the rebar for you. Also the pieces the stakes are held on with are Plastic----they held ok but are small--we had to leave them a bit loose so would fit over the rebar. Note you will need a drill to put the screws on. My husband is handy and has tools so the project went well but it did take us a few hours to put all the pieces on the lawn--we bought the whole Nativity set and it really looks great. We used 3 white flood lights to get the set lit properly.
