Unlike many other chalkboards this one is compatible with both chalk and chalkboard markers due to its' non-porous writing surface. For extra stability and visual effect plants or other items can be placed on the lower shelf of the chalkboard. The lower shelf fits securely in place with two dowels and corresponding slots, this is what gives the chalkboard is rigidity.
