Q: How do I know if I need this 17” or the 30” model? I have tiles that are 24” long and 12” wide.

Depends on how your laying your tile and which sides will need cutting. I bought both. The smaller one used the most due to 12" - 16" wide tiles are used the most. When 18" and long tiles are used and your cutting on the 24" length side then you will need to longer model. What you are doing with theses tools is, your sliding the guide tool to matching the length of your tile plus your grout joint on the length that needs to be cut. if it is on the shorter side (12") in width ,then only the short one will work for this case and you will have both cases ( short and long sides to cut) IF your tiling on a regular bases then both is worth buying.

Q: Do you permanently set all full tiles first, then cut all perimeter tiles?

I tackled my tile project by making all my cuts first using the TileRight before permanently affixing any tiles. I dryfitted my whole tiles and my cut tiles and applied a numbering label sequence for my cut pieces.
