Scrape the rod to create a small pile of magnesium shavings next to your tinder. Use any dry combustible as your tinder: paper, lint, bark, leaves, etc. Then, scrape the rod to create sparks and ignite the magnesium shavings and tinder. Each Magnesium Alloy Rod Fire Starter is 100 mm length x 8 mm diameter (approx. 4 inches long x 5/16 inch diameter).

Great ferro rod
Great ferro rod. Softer than others. Very comparable to the Light my fire 2.0 except longer and thinner in diameter. Not too soft though. If you are on the fence with this product, go ahead and buy it.
