The RIBZ front pack is made of 210d water resistant ripstop nylon. The ribs pack weighs approx. 11 oz. All components are water resistant and have proven durability in the most extreme of conditions. With an average storage capacity between 500 and 700 cubic inches, you can comfortably relocate your desired weight in the front packs. The use of a front pack repositions a portion of your weight forward which reduces your overall shoulder stress and increases comfort, mobility, and balance.

Buy it if you hike outdoors
I received this item very quickly and it was just as I expected it to be.Prior to ordering, I had visited the manufacturer's website and read reviews, both on Amazon and other sites, and pretty much knew what to expect. These are my initial impressions. Given that it's the midst of winter, I haven't worn it outside, but will do so later and update this review. The front pack seems well made out of quality materials (thin and lightweight, but strong). The design seems very well thought out. I would call it "minimalist" in that there is not a lot to it; no bulk at all. Everything is there that should be, but nothing that shouldn't.Adjusting the pack didn't present any problems, as some others have noted. I layed it out and adjusted it according the instructions and it was quick and simple.I wore the pack around the house for a few hours this weekend. I loaded about 3 pounds of gear in each large side pocket and performed normal, weekend chores. I had initially envisioned using this as a stand-alone outdoor photography pack, but after about an hour I found myself leaning backward to adjust to the weight to my front. (Please note that this front pack was developed to be used in conjuction with a daypack/backpack, not to replace one.) When I added a small daypack that contained about the same amount of weight as the front pack carried, it seemed very comfortable and well balanced. I would not suggest using this as a stand-alone pack as I had hoped to do, unless you have a well-developed core. As an adjunct pack however, it seems to function wonderfully, keeping essential gear at hand without feeling bulky or interfering with normal arm movement.I found that when I placed tall, heavy objects (think camera lenses or anything else tall and heavy) upright in the internal mesh pockets next to my body, the weight actually rode better than laying horizontally in the bottom of the pockets. I'm not sure how long the mesh netting would hold up to a tall, heavy load if it shifted around at all. But if there was additional gear in the pocket pushing the weight tigher against the body, the strain would probably be taken off of the mesh to where it would not pose any problem.I'm not a specialforcesrangerdeltaseal, but the guy that developed this pack apparently was. Maybe that's why it seems so well designed and made. I look forward to using this pack more extensively once I get back outside.

Awesome!
I am writing this review primarily for the person trying to settle on the proper size. After much searching the net and reading reviews I decided to order the medium set. I am 5'10 at 190lbs with a 33" waist and these things rock. Perfect fit with plenty of room for all the essentials. If your someone who over packs then I would recommend the large however I carry a Kahr pm9, two clips, first aid kit, headlamp, spare batteries, knife, point and shoot camera, snacks, 550 cord, lighter and last but not least a life straw. Hope this helps!

Almost perfect for day hiking and fishing use. Manufacturer needs to make straps stiffer and less prone to tangling.
I find these front packs perfect for day hiking, all of my stuff is easily accessible. I fly fish and use one dedicated as my fishing pack. You can hike into a lake with your day pack and drop it, assemble your fly rod and you are ready to go. If you are in bear country, you can add a can of pepper spray for quick access. The only drawback is the straps become tangled too easily. I usually take it off and zip together the two sides, but if the straps were made of stiffer materials that wouldn't twist it would improve them a lot. I wonder why the manufacturer hasn't thought of that.

2011 Ribz Front Pack Forest Camo
The seller upgraded me to the new 2011 model which is not actually the same as the one shown in the picture... It's made from different (silent) material and a slightly different camo pattern which I actually like much better. The only real difference between the 2 models is that the 2011 has big strap clips in front where the old version had d-rings. I like the new one and the quality seems about the same. The pack is very comfortable to wear with or without a backpack. I took it out trout fishing last night and it performed admirably! I noticed that it was a bit more comfortable to wear higher up almost on my chest as opposed to to around my belly (I've got an ample gut :P) and sitting down almost forces the pack into this position anyway. I was able to stuff 2 small tackle boxes, floats, hooks, stringer, phone, knife, compass, leatherman's, sun glasses, bug spray, sun block, smokes, lighter and a few other items in there with ease. I love the inner pockets to help keep things organized as well. The only thing I don't like, is how the straps rub against my neck when only wearing a t-shirt under the pack. I'm sure the straps will break in and soften up over time and I'll often be wearing this over a jacket or sweatshirt (as I did last night), but right now I would think it's a bit annoying. That by no means takes away from the utility and convenience of this pack.Overall this is a great product and I'd highly recommend to anyone!
