The spring/summer season starts in a few weeks, so I'll test it out for distance in then. I've been very pleased with it when using it in my canoe. If that is what you want to use it for I'd say go for it. If you are thinking of using in from shore I'd say be prepared to be frustrated. When using from shore, it constantly loses connection when casting it out. The other thing to keep in mind is that with bluetooth only it's range away from your device is limited.
