Handy House's rubber jar opener and the purpose for which I ordered it.
This item works well and also works well for the purpose for which I ordered it. I am home-bound and have lost strength in my grip. Lifting oxygen tanks by their valves is impossible for me now. But by using the Rubber Jar Opener wrapped around the valve I can now lift the tank and it doesn't slip out of my grip. But you can't find them in stores. Then, I actually got to use it as a jar opener ! I have no idea why that is as, once upon a time back in the day, you could always find them in grocery stores. Handy House sells these things as the "Rubber Jar Opener" ... their name for these things struck me a funny as hell the first time I saw it while I was hunting for them on Amazon ... rubber jars ? But, who cares? They work GREAT as jar openers AND for helping me grip the valve-ends of medical oxygen tanks. I no longer have the grip necessary and the smooth stainless steel valve slid out of my hand. But with the rubber jar opener it makes it possible once again for me to be able to change my empties with fresh and full Oh-2 tanks.

it is a piece of rubber
works just like the old one did...very simple, very effective. And since you have to write a certain amount of words, there you go!

A Jewel of a Tool
Although I bought this for a gift, so without opening the package and actually using it, it seems to be what I was looking for. I have a few of my own that I collected through the years as freebies from people advertising their business, and I just love them. So I hope this one works out as well. The only thing I didn't like was the price tag. Seems to be a little high for what the product is.

Practical and effective
I was looking to replace a similar jar opener that I'd had for over 20 years, which was imprinted with a now-defunct bank's logo. It finally gave out, so I wanted a replacement. I tried several that said they were rubber, but were more silicone (and bulky) or plastic (and more slippery). None was right until this one. It's true that it has a rubber smell, but putting it in a rubbermaid container filled with kitty litter absorbed-out the smell in about a week. (This is a great odor elimination technique, by the way.) And the color isn't sexy. But... it grips and helps me open jar and bottle lids, hallelujah!

It worked for a while...
I bought it because I am a single female with no upper body strength so jar openers are a must have for me. At first it was awesome and no problems but after a month or so it barely helped anything.

Easily Open Jar
Since I have problems using my right hand to open bottles/jars, this rubber opener has solved my dilemma. It is a little thick but bends easily. Am happy with it.

So simple and inexpensive--but it works much better than fancier gadgets I have tried
Invaluable for opening jars and bottles, especially if you've got arthritic hands. I have one in a kitchen drawer and keep one in my purse to open water and soda bottles purchased at vending machines. So simple and inexpensive--but it works much better than fancier gadgets I have tried.

Simple easy jar opener that does the job
This was exactly what I was looking for to replace an old rubber jar opener I had gotten at a health fair. Like so many of the other buyers commented, it's been hard to find at stores. It works well and does the job. It probably won't last for many years (my old one lasted at least 6-8 yrs), but it's much more versatile and useful than other ones I've seen. Would definitely recommend it. I'm going to get another one for my mom too.

Adequately decreases friction by creating an adhesive point of contact
Packaging was a bit of a throwback - felt like I'd ordered something in 1983 and it finally came. I was in need of a product to increase friction, and researched the following options:- Create a “rougher” or more adhesive point of contact.- Press the two surfaces together harder.- Stop any relative motion.- Remove lubrication between the two surfaces.- Remove wheels or bearings to create sliding friction.- Increase the fluid viscosity.I chose the first option, and this rubber thing does the job of creating an adhesive point of contact. Good price and durable enough that it should survive the intense operating conditions involved in removing metal lids from glass jars for years to come.
