5-Pack Cloth Filters For Stovetop & Tabletop Siphon Coffee Makers, Washable & Reusable
R**L
For the benefit of Northwest Glass Yama SY-8 owners
I ordered these together with the Northwest Glass Yama Stovetop Vacuum Coffee Siphon (Item model number: SY-8) - 40-ounce/8-cup model.I won't say they are not made by Northwest Glass (who makes the coffee maker). I will say, based on my factual experience, that they are not the same as the originals that come in the box with the coffee maker (one mounted on the metal strainer disk, one replacement in plastic bag). The pack of filters being reviewed here, has filters that are larger, and I believe, a bit thicker. They fit, but the thickness is a problem:As soon as I started using one, my vacuum/syphon coffee maker stalled: When it was done brewing and I put it on a cold trivet, the coffee started its return from the top brewing bowl to the carafe at the bottom, and stopped short of vacuuming all the coffee back down. Sometimes, as much as half of the coffee remained stubbornly in the upper bowl.I experimented with adjusting to a more coarse grind (should not have made a difference, the first 5 pots I brewed with the original filter used much finer-ground coffee successfully), adjusting brewing times, nothing worked. I experimented with water only, no coffee - all the water always returned to the bottom carafe. What good is a coffee maker that only boils water at less than 212 F if it won't work with actual coffee? So I used a Melitta paper filter. One layer only. Tucked the edges under the metal strainer, hooked the strainer to the bottom of the glass stem, made sure there were no edges sticking out. Success. No more stalling.I see that many others report these replacement filters work flawlessly with their coffee makers - of other brands - and one customer reported they work well with his Yama coffee maker, but did not specify exactly which model.Good for them, I'm happy for them. For users of the Northwest Glass Yama model SY-8, I recommend against them. One layer of the unbleached (brown) Melitta paper filter, available everywhere, works just fine. Of course, that means single use. But they are so cheap that it works out well.Three stars, because I doubt the accuracy of the product description and the provenance of the product.UPDATE:-------After much trial and error, it turns out these are, after all, the correct replacement filters. There was some confusion as to exactly what the size of the filter was, when bought from this seller, vs. bought from Northwest Glass, but it turns out to be the same, and it's perfectly reliable. Changing my rating to 5 starts -- this is also based on the practical experience I've had with this product, it does not cause any stalling. What's not reliable at this point, is whether these will continue to be available, I used to buy them from Northwest Glass, now their web site points you to a completely different web site for all coffee products/parts, and I didn't see these specific filters on that site. So the Melitta paper filters are still an option, in case these disappear.

Excellent customer service!
This is an update from two stars in my original I originally review (see below) which I gave because the items I received did not resemble the package shown in the item description, which IS the product I ordered and expected. However, almost immediately after my review I was contacted by Andrew in their customer service department who apologized and explained that these are indeed the correct OEM replacement filters and work fine. He went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable with my purchase and I would now, without hesitation, order from them again. Thank you Andrew! One suggestion, it might help to update the photo for this product to match what is actually shipped.ORIGINAL REVIEW: "Product is not what is pictured, was not even packaged the same nor does it match my current filters. I have not used them yet so am unsure how they perform but are definitely not the same Yama cloth filters but even if they work I feel as if I was deceived. Would not recommend."

With a slight modification, it works with a Vintage Electric Siphon pot
I bought a great electric siphon pot from the 50s on eBay but it was missing the cloth filter. Making larger pots of coffee would clog up the tube during the downward suction process and a paper filter was no help so I gave this a try. I had to cut a small hole in the center of filter as the electric pot has a "stem" that goes down into the tube. This doesn't catch 100% of the grounds, but it catches most and keeps the tube from getting clogged. It's also very easy to clean. If you remove it soon after you're done brewing before the oils have a chance to set, a little dish soap and a good rinse will get the filter to almost new condition. I'm quite sure I'll get several uses out of each one.Good buy.

Ya' Gotta Have Them!
If you have a Yama Vac Pot, you need these to keep it going! They arrived in perfect condition and were just as pictured. Cleaning the filter after you use them is a bit tough. I run them under scalding hot water after I rinse them thoroughly. I tried taking one off to clean it and I should advise against that...once they are on, just clean them as best you can on the strainer disc to avoid ripping it. I'm not sure I would bleach the filter to clean it as I'm not confident they would rinse clean and not effect the taste of the brew...but I am going to try it on my current filter once it looks a little tattered and worn. They are nice and durable and last a bit longer than I thought they would, I must have brewed 20 to 25 pots of coffee and it's still going strong.

Good product
These filters last a very long time. Clean up fairly easily. Obviously how frequently you use them determines when you need to replace. I use my pot for these filters several times a week and change them out about every 6 months.

best filter type for coffee siphon
After experimenting with the diguo permanent metal filter, the glass rod, and the cloth, I've returned to cloth. Its reliable, replaceable, and filters the fastest and most consistently.

A good Vacpot replacement!
A good and affordable replacement filter. I clean them with Oxyclean type products from time to time, but when that stops working I replacement and these do the trick!

Makes very good coffee, fastsr than one would think
Makes very good coffee, fastsr than one would think. Although I purchased spare set of cloth strainers, I have not needed to change one yet. I still have to work out the best combination of grind and coffee for best flavour but I am getting there. Use it on the stovetop without the trivet.
