It's gimmicky but I'll be dipped if it doesn't do the job it needs to do and do it well.

The idea behind this watermelon slicer is really cool. I always make a huge mess when I cut up melon, and the idea of leaving the messy juice in the rind sold me on the product. And it does really eliminate the mess. However, it is not perfect. It takes some time to get used to basically shaving the rind with that metal tip, and it's hard to tell how close to the edge you are. My slices definitely did not come out looking picture perfect, but they did come out! I also tried to use this on a cantaloupe, and it just did not work. Any melon where the center needs to be scraped out makes it hard to really get slices, and a melon baller is much easier in my opinion. I bought this slicer at a promotional price in order to test and review it, and I think it's a great kitchen novelty if not a necessity.

So everyone in my family eats watermelon, but me. I bought this because even though I don't eat it... I always get stuck cutting it. This makes it so much easier. I love this thing. Definitely a handy little tool for such a sticky melon. This is a must have for watermelon eaters everywhere. It has a nice grippy handle and glides through the watermelon with ease. This product is so cool! Slicing a giant watermelon is a messy nightmare! This makes it so easy and clean. We get uniform slices...and my kids love to use it! Win! Very cool product. Cleans easily. Highly recommended!
