I am very very pleased with the quality and price of this product. It is extremely sturdy and well built. Shame it isn't for sale anymore...Update:After 3 years (2017-2020, preemptive RIP), the drive is on crutches. It shuts down when attempting to burn media, CD ROM reading is fine, and it seems to have issues tracking DVDs and runs at the miniumum read speed. Sounds like it is struggling and it is not clear what is going bad. Keeping review at 5 stars, this thing is built substantially well, and for <18 dollars you can't do any better. Got my money's worth. Got a newer LG burner and it feels chinsy in comparison.I would buy 3 more of these immediately if they were still available.

New laptops and even desktops don't come with optical drives anymore as the format is dying. However like alot of you I have alot of information backed up on CD's and DVD's so I picked up this external drive for my new laptop. Plugged it in, windows 10 recognized it without issue and I popped in a dvd and it reads it with no problems. Dell wanted $30+ for a similar external drive, Saved a few bucks there by buying this one. Bottom line it works.

Tested on windows 10, simply plug into a USB port and use. No complicated directions or setup. Literally plug n' play. Seems to be high quality for the price, also came in a very protective box.

We don't have much need for CD/DVD features these days, but when I need one, I need it. Some of the lighter computers no longer even include the feature, which can be great for traveling. This unit satisfies the occasional need, and other than that can be stored. For this occasional use, drive speed isn't much of an issue, and I've used mine successfully a dozen or so times with different computers. Good unit for this, and a great price.

Works great! My piece of junk laptop no longer has sound and needs a speaker attached to it to hear anything and it no longer plays movies because, well I tried to fix it and my husband says that is what broke it but I think it was broke before that when the screw fell out of the back and thats when it lost sound... that is what I was fixing but couldn't... anyway yep now it plays dvds again yippie! Little Mermaid and Lord of the rings here I come!

This works like a dream. It came with two usb cables - one to connect to your computer to play the movies and one to connect and draw power for the device so it doesn't have to be plugged into the wall. I haven't had to use the power cord at all. It seems to work just fine with the single cable. Awesome.

Really simple. Just using it to play Netflix DVDs on my computer since it doesn't come with a CD/DVD rom drive anymore. I've been using it all month and the only issues I have had have been with the DVD's themselves and not with the player.

So for the low price I really wanted to believe that this was going to work. I got one CD to burn that will actually play in a CD player. Three of them were simply ruined and will not play. the rest of them it would not even acknowledge there was a CD in it. Don't waste your time you will end up having to return it.
