Great textbook for learning on your own
This is a newer edition of the textbook I used in college while majoring in Civil Engineering, which I sold after finishing the course. Now that I'm studying for the PE exam, I purchased it again. The explanations are short and easy to understand on your own. I can't imagine a better textbook if you're learning from a book and without an instructor. The answers are provided for all the odd problems and there are many example problems, another great help. I feel very confident in the area of Geotechnical Engineering now and have a good working knowledge of what I need to know.

Requirement to Reference
This book was a requirement for my Soil Mechanics class in Civil Engineering. Plenty of textbooks are dry and verbose when explaining different subject matter. This book is quick and to the point. I currently work in the field and it has been useful as a reference.
