I use these with my wet suit. They stay in place but are not overly tight. Comfortable. The look is nice, modern but not flashy. Medium fits my 32" waist well. Machine wash in cold water with a bit of soap in the delicates cycle, then air dry. Still look like new. Decently priced. Recommended.

First impression after wearing these under my wetsuit for two scuba dives is very good. Fit on me is good but ideally I’d like it slightly more tight; I bought size medium for my 31” waist (I’m 5’10”, 160 LBS). Material thickness is just right for under the wetsuit and the fabric is heavier (a good thing) than UnderArmor shorts I’d been using (for lack of anything better). Drawstring can pull out too easily during washing but fortunately it can be re-inserted with minimal effort. Happy to finally find some shorts actually designed to wear under wetsuits. I dive a lot and expect to purchase a second pair of these before too long.

Given problems other reviewers mentioned re determining correct size, I wanted to add my experience. I am 5'10", 209 lbs & have a 43 " waist. To deal with my waist size, I ordered 3XL based on several reviewers' comments. The sticker on their plastic bag said "Mares Rash Guard Shorts - Mens - XX " but the tag on the shorts themselves is 3XL so I believe I received what I ordered. The waist fit is fine although the chord is barely long enough to tie, but the fit in the thighs and seat is quite loose. I do not have a fullback's thighs or gluts! That is what it would take to have this pair fit as they should, nice and snug. Used them yesterday for lap swimming and had to really tighten up the draw string to keep them on! In fairness, I think the reasonable assumption is that if one orders a 3XL you are big in all dimensions so I can't fault the manufacturer. Design is attractive & just as pictured, they dried quickly, so they will be fine as a back up pair to keep in swim bag.

Great rash guard. Just got back from a 3-day scuba diving live-aboard boat trip. I wore this for 3 days straight for 15 consecutive dives. It fit perfectly and held up better than I could have hoped for. Can't even tell any signs of wear. Even though I had it under my wetsuit for 3 days. The only thing I did in between days with throw it in the dryer overnight. The only casualty was that the drawstring came out of the waistband while it was bouncing around in the dryer at one point. But I don't blame the shorts, the string got caught up on part of the dryer on the inside. However, material is great quality and I did not need the draw string. The shorts were stretchy and clung to me even without the drawstring. I highly recommend this rash guard.

The size chart works well for determining size if you want a looser fit. If you want a tighter fit, go a size smaller than recommended. Quality seems great, wore under my wetsuit and walking to and from the truck at the dive site. The women were really impressed by the fit and fabric, I even had a woman want to touch the waistband and she said that she could see herself in these shorts!

I have just started scuba diving and I needed something thin to wear under my wet suit. I initially ordered a speedo jammer in a size 42. That turned out to be a little to loose at the legs and bunched up when pulling my wet suit over it. But it had a very nice waist band. I returned it and ordered this and the short sleeve shirt. I spent less money on these and the fit is good. I found a size chart somewhere that indicated Mares x-large fits 36-40 waist. The fit for me is good although still a little loose in the legs. The feel is nice, the material is thin which is what I was looking for. Other reviews are right on about the draw string but this is such a minor problem it is hardly worth mentioning. Overall very pleased.

The shorts were great! I wore them under my regular bathing suit to great success. Normally, when I go to the beach with my wife for the day we lay out in the sun, do some swimming, then walk around forever while she shops. That walking around used to give me rashes on my inner thighs. No longer. These shorts worked the nuts! My first experience with them was for 5 days in Hawaii. We went swimming, boogie boarding, and snorkeling. I wore them for 8+ hours a day for 5 days straight. They were cool, comfortable, and kept my butt crack from hanging out of my bathing suit! Not to mention I didn't get a rash! Great product, I will be buying another pair.

Bought these to wear under my wetsuit. Read the sizing reviews, and someone posted if you wear XL sweatpants buy XL, so that's what I did. The shorts themselves fit great. I typically wear L/XL in most shorts. I'm right in between at a 40" waist, which is why the in-between. Large is usually 38-40 and it depends on the shorts they might be too snug, XL is often 40-42, and I'm closer to 40 than 42 so they can be too big. These are just right for me. However... The drawstring is a joke, and maybe I just got a pair with the wrong string. If these are for a 40-42 inch waist, the drawstring is probably 43 inches long. I'm going to have to come up with another string from an older pair of pants or something. However, looking at Mares sizing on their site, or another site that sells Mares that had a sizing chart, it would lead you to believe that XL is for 34-38, which might make the drawstring size appropriate. However, you'd be swimming in them literally. So who knows?

My husband has a pair from a dive shop he really liked and when he seen the deal he ordered 2 pair for fraction of what he paid for his first pair. And they are exactly the same not nockoffs mares pkging and everything, we are very satisfied

Come up a little small so a 36" waist is xll on my second pair as they are very comfortable to wear under a wetsuit

I'm a big (read fat) guy and these fit me super well without cutting feeling at thigh level. About 40+ hours in them in 4 months and will buy them again if they ever give up.

Forse sbagliando, pensavo che questo prodotto potesse essere polivalente ovvero usato sia come rash guard che come pantaloncino per running, polivalenza che avrei apprezzato molto per via delle restrizioni come volume e peso dei bagagli da imbarcare in stiva o portare in cabina in tempo di vacanze. Se sono leggerissimi come rash guard, lo sono a maggior ragione come pantaloncino da running perché pochissimo contenitivi. Oltre a ciò, da Mares mi aspettavo qualcosa di più come qualità del tessuto e colori che sono un pochino smunti.
