A beautiful book which I read on my free time working in a public school system in 2014. I completed reading the book in 2-3 days. Each time I put the book down in those hours, I could not wait to pick-up the book and read more pages. Agree, Mrs. Roberts conversational writing style created a realistic background and setting. I felt like I was part of the lighthouse scene within the pages of the book. An important part of New England lighthouse history is captured in this autobiographical documentation of life in a lighthouse family. They are truly everyday heroes. I was very glad to have found the book and highly recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about the history and life of lighthouse keepers and their families. I did share the book with some of the elementary school students. They were captivated by the photos.

Interesting but might have been better if a little shorter
We read this for book group, and I’d voted for it. Found it interesting but the prose could have been tighter. The writing style was very conversational,—almost felt that it’d been transposed after being dictated. Lots of colorful anecdotes and interesting bits of history, though, which were great. So happy the author get back to her beloved Cuttyhunk and could share it with her daughter.

I lived in Westport and could see the island everyday but never visited. The next time I am in town, I will stop by and check the island out.

I felt like I was in her kitchen listening to her amazing tales of a wonderful life and frankly I never wanted her to stop. If you love lighthouses, if you want to partake in a slice of Americana or if you want to cozy up to tales of an amazing childhood, you won't be disappointed in Everyday Heroes.

Inspirational Reading on how people should treat others
This book details the daily struggles of a blue collar family during and after World War II. The family just happens to be a Coast Guard Lighthouse family. I got to see the author's life as a child during difficult and enjoyable times with good grace and humor. Both her father and mother loved other people and made a commitment to help anyone out and brighten their lives. We can learn how important it is in life to connect with other people from reading this book!

Great homespun stories.
This is vintage Americana. It sure beats watching the mindless slop on TV. This is good reading that will leave you in a great state of mind.

Best Lighthouse Book!
This book is the best one ever about life at a lighthouse. Full of charming stories from the eyes of a child - like sitting down with an old friend. Can't recommend it highly enough!
