love, and worry
Morning at Jalna, by Mazo de la Roche, is the second in a series of the Whiteoak family, with roots in Ireland and England, and as such, it sets the pace for what is to come. In Morning at Jalna, the family is settled in to their huge Canadian home (which is a character in itself), when they feel the effects of the American Civil War, and fear their involvement could change the family forever. The characters are so rich, and quite unpredictable--subject to quick anger and laughter, subterfuge, love, and worry, led by Adeline, the matriarch. I love family sagas, and they can't be found these days, except in the Jalna series. The author changes point of view all through the book, keeping me hopping and knowing exactly what's going through everyone's mind.

New house, young family!
Loved this part of the story.......the beautiful new home and the children young and full of adventure. I found pioneering in such a "rich" aristocratic way quite enjoyable.

Favorite series ever!
I loved everything about this series. I feel I became a member of the Whiteoak family. I would recommend it to anyone who loves reading! I actually had to have the next book in the series before finishing the immediate one I was reading. I have re-read the entire series and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. I actually feel sorry for anyone who passes up the experience!

Great family saga
Just one book in a wonderful family saga . I read the first book by Mazo de la Roche which I found on my mother's bookshelf when I was in my teens (more than 50 years ago!). Now having found all the books on Kindle I am making my way through them all - loving it!

A Book Review
years ago I read the complete series of the Whiteoaks and I want to read them all again to find out if they still have that appeal after fifty or so years!Morning at Jalna is the second book and it arrived on time and in good condition. I have read it and enjoyed it again. I intend to purchas the rest of the series through Amazon as they cannot be beaten for quality and price.

Morning at Jalna - the Second Book of the Saga
Philip, the future Master of Jalna, is a baby. The American civil war is underway and the Sinclairs from Carolina visit Jalna. The Busbys and the Laceys are introduced. Adeline flirts with Wilmott. The three children are nearly drowned in an escapade on the lake, for which Tite is responsible, and are rescued by Tite. The family depart for a holiday in England and Ireland.
