Timeless stories
Very glad that these stories (which I enjoyed as a little girl, courtesy of my aunt who had enjoyed them as a young girl) are still around :) The cover of this edition features a very modern illustration (not quite reflecting the contents), but the stories (including the clever poetry written by the schoolgirls) are timeless!

What Katy did at school.
Great book, old but never out of date. Nice book if you want to encourage a child to read, cover is attractive,

What are you going to do next, Katy?
Katy and her younger, Clover go to New England boarding school by "What Katy Did at School." They get many great friends. I become the feeling from which I became Katy's classmate. In "What Katy Did Next", Katy's European tour is written interestingly. However, I do not so like the parent and child who are the companion of Katy. Moreover, the classmate of nostalgic Katy also appears. And we are excited by the whereabouts of the romance of Katy.

Oh Dear
The driver left my books which were simply packaged in cardboard, out in the recent downpour, instead of leaving them in the nearby safe place which is my garden shed. By the time I got home they were a soggy mass of swollen pulp with dripping and torn pages. Barely recognisable as books at all. There was no salvaging either book and so they just went straight in the bin. Impossible to comment on the quality or readability of these children’s classics. Two stars for what might have been a decent enough version but was still disappointing in that they were unillustrated with small print. Not worth the cheap price really, as they are quite uninspiring. I recommend spending more on better editions and making sure you’re there to receive them, as sadly it’s not the first time Amazon drivers have left my books out in the rain.

Pure Delight
What Katy Did At School by Susan Coolidge is the second book in the marvellous Carr Family series, that is every bit as entertaining as when it was written in the 1870’s.As the title suggests the reader follows Katy and her younger sister Clover to boarding school for a year. The reader is enchanted by their everyday lives.Katy and Clover have hearts of gold. They see those that others reject and they spread goodness and kindness wherever they go.There is an eclectic mix of girls at school. Some are nice, others not so much.Once more Katy has captured the reader’s heart with her kindness and zest for life. This series is totally charming. What Katy Did Next by Susan Coolidge is the third book in the Carr Family series which has been enchanting. In this book we see Katy as she undertakes a European tour with her friend and her friend’s young daughter. It was very fashionable to travel abroad for the well to do. It was quite an undertaking in the late nineteenth century. The reader journeys across the sea and is treated to time spent in England, France and Italy. There are wonderful descriptions enabling the reader to experience the beauty and delight, along with Katy.Once more, Katy’s love for life and kind heart are infectious, making this series of three books a pure delight.

A really good book
It's a lovely picture of late nineteenth century American family life, showing how different it was then, before even telephones, and cars, so that getting a message or travelling was much more difficult. The description of all the washing that Aunt Izzie had to cope with, since she had so many nieces and nephews, was startling - she would have had a much easier time if she were around now, with a washing machine to help her, poor lady!
