I found this to be a great book of idea starters
I see many people complaining that there are too many vehicles. It does have many vehicle types in the book. I have also seen people criticize that minifigs won't fit. If one if building a whole city, you would need lots of Lego and space to build it to minifig scale. Micro scale is the way to go. This is one of the first books dedicated to micro scale, and the book is great. Now about the lack of buildings? 1) How much diversity is there in the buildings in a city? If you squint the diversity is in scale, color, number of floors, types of external decoration. In this book you should be able to take the two designs and create a great many buildings from it. What really make a city a city is what the city contains and much of the actual diversity is in the vehicles you see. You get a train, dump truck, different consumer cars. You even get 2 types of trees. The book is full of beautiful color pictures, great instructions. He gives you good information regarding building at this scale. I personally can't wait for the next book from them.

Great Guide
This book is a fantastic source for anyone looking to get into miniature model building! It primarily provides instructions for vehicles but there a several guides for buildings as well. Also included are element numbers and descriptions so that you can easily find the parts online. The book showed me uses for various parts that I had never thought of before!

We love it!
We are really happy with this book! It is what we refer to as a "mini" city book, and no, regular minifigures won't fit with it but you can build a large city in a tiny space (and I find these builds sturdier). I noticed a lot of other reviewers were complaining that there are mostly vehicle builds (I included a photo of the content page) but I think that was a smart move for the authors of the book. They included parts lists with pictures as well as step by step instructions for each build. This is already a huge book, there would need to be another book just for buildings (which would be cool). So yes, they should have titled this one "Build Your Own City Vehicles" but they do give you a couple of options for houses and buildings you could customize with different colors. So, check out the preview that amazon offers before you purchase (clicking on the "Look inside" button under the picture in the description), it's pretty accurate as to what the whole book is like. And consider using the Lego website for ordering specific bricks under the "Pick a Brick" option. It is unlikely you will have every single brick to create a lot of the builds in the book (you will find this true for most lego idea books).

Good for vehicles, especially in micro scale
This book is aimed mostly at vehicles. About 2/3rds of the book gives instructions at the "micro" scale (i.e. smaller than minifig). It is mostly vehicles, but there are also some trees and two buildings. The last third of the book has instructions for intricate vehicles at the minifig scale, but no buildings. The vehicles are clever and at the micro level, not very difficult. Creations also take up a lot less space at the micro level. Working in the micro level might seem a cheaper way to "play" with Legos and that is partially true, but it is offset by the parts being less common and harder to come by. The builds do come with a parts list and include a parts number, but I did not have any success using the parts number when I searched on the Lego website. My daughter likes the micro scale. It is "cute" and does not take long. Lego sells a few sets at the micro level. So, if you are looking to add vehicles to one of those sets, this book works quite well. However, about 1/3 of the book has nothing to do with that and the rest of the book does not really stand well on its own.

Thought there would be more buildings..
This is definitely a micro-scaled vehicle book. You get a couple of minifig scale models that are awesome too, but that is not the primary focus. There are only about 3 buildings here, so it's a little misleading about building a city. Nonetheless, still a great book.

The kids love it.
The boys wanted more inspiration and they loved it. We received a charming thank you letter indicating that the boys are duplicating the toys here AND have been inspired to create others not reflected in the book

One Big Disappointment!!!
Not only is the title of the book misleading, but the book description is incorrect. Please change the book description so that other people do not buy a product they weren't expecting. To all other potential buyers: this is a book mostly instructing the creation of vehicles, and mostly in midi scale ie tiny, micro, piccolo etc. Normal mini figures would not fit in this "city". As another reviewer mentioned, "what city???"I plan to return my first ever book.
