Covers Tattoo History, Not Design
This is a decent book if you want to learn the history of Hawaiian tattoos. This book does not have many example images of tattoo patterns and their meanings as I had expected. I enjoyed reading it, but useless for my purposes.

Excellent resource
Love the perspective by the author who is both a tattooist and a scholar of polynesian tattoo - a rare find. The history and sketches of early Hawaiian tattoo were great to see. It is ideal, when thinking getting polynesian tattoo, to find the original renditions of polynesian tattoo, as are in this text. Love the book.

A Must Read for anyone who is interested in Hawaiian tattoo
Tricia Allen knows what she is writing about- she is a tattoo artist who has tattooed many hundreds of Polynesians and she is a researcher and academic who has dedicated her life to unearthing as much knowledge about Hawaiian and Polynesian tattoo as there is to know. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Very Informative
This is a very detailed, well researched and written book about the known history of tattoos in Hawaii. However, in trying to design my own meaningful tattoo, I was personally looking for a book that would explain the various meanings of the individual tattoo designs which are common today, which this book does not.

Tattoo Review
I haven't had a chance to read it all the way through but what I have read is wonderful. A great collection of information on Polynesian tattoo that are just not available in any other place. I'm working on my own art work based on Polynesian tattoos and the information available in this book was/is invaluable. I'm glad I found it.

great book
We get Tattooes when we vacation in the tropics, and like to research the material before applying it to our skin. There are some cultural do's, and don't. It is important to know these as not to offend any polynesians.

Highly offensive depictions of Hawai'ian Natives
The depictions of Native Hawaiian people done by Sailers is incredibly offensive. The info is very incomplete. I do not like this book 😡

The Hawai`ian Tattoo.
This is an expertly written very informative book on the history of Tattoo in The Hawai`ian Islands. It is mainly text. The pictures range from the visit of Captain James Cook in 1778 to The Sandwich Islands (Hawai`i.) And the early tattooed Hawai`ians. To the tools they used and information on patterns and designs.Ending with a few photographs of present day tattooing in Hawai`i.The book has a glossy paperback cover.Really you have to buy Tricia Allens follow up book "The Polynesian Tattoo Today" to accompany this.It has full page colour photographs of the best Hawai`ian tattoo artists work today in Hawai`i.It is virtually all photographs. If you are interested in Hawai`ian and Polynesian Tattoos then these 2 books are a must buy.

Un poco flojo
Flojillo.
