I had the same problem that others have had plus more. The first book came with a torn cover. For $90 I thought I should have a good book. I returned the first copy before the replacement came. That was a poor choice. The replacement book had a good cover but it did not include the Studio Card for use with the on line content. The color chips stuck together and when peeled apart the color came off making the chips unusable. For the high cost of this product I find that unacceptable. I am waiting on a third copy to see if it contains the Studio Card and chips to replacement the bad ones from the second book. I should have kept the first copy and from the three copies tried to cobble together one book with usable chips and a Studio Card. I would recommend that you NOT purchase this product.

Buyer Beware
I purchased 5 of these books (5th Edition) from different vendors and ALL 5 had problems with the chips sticking together! When you carefully pull them apart it pulls off the color found on the chip! It seems to me that the printer/publisher (Fairchild Books - an imprint of Bloomsbury Fashion Central) did not let the chips dry enough before gluing the pages together (and then cutting them into chips). Bloomsbury should rectify this and sell good chips on their website. Buyer beware! I'd purchase the older edition that does not have this issue..

Great information on color and the Munsell system
Great information on color and the Munsell system. Just a note, this is NOT the edition with a studio code, which I should have known if I was reading closely; the studio access is definitely worth the extra couple of bucks and I wish it had been included. The seller should make a specific note of this, as the online access is required by many classes. Otherwise, a fine product.

In at list 5 packet some chips were glued together. If this book would have cost me $10 I would not have mind too much but since I paid $85 I expect a little professionalism, please!

Disgraceful manufacturing
I'm not criticising the book, or the Munsell system, and I love the idea of having separated chips for ease of colour matching... but the manufacturing of the colour chips is a total disgrace. They arrive stuck together so badly that you can't separate them without damaging about 10% of them so badly that you almost can't use them. I've had to REPAINT many of them myself !! This is an expensive package and the publisher bloody well ought to sort this production problem out for this price. In fact, if you're only buying this for the colour chips you'd be better off buying a set of Color Aid papers, which has slightly more colours (314 instead of 294) and much bigger sheets, although not arranged so systematically. Or even better, go to a DIY shop that mixes paint in the Natural Colour System NCS (Johnstone's and Leyland use this) and they'll have colour cards for 1,300 colours arranged as systematically as Munsell on much bigger cards. You can probably buy a complete NCS swatch set cheaper than this Munsell book, and have 1000 extra colours. NCS does free online training too.I do still prefer the Munsell system, but still, this set is so badly made.

A student of classical oil painting using Munsell colour mixing system.
Good service from seller. The Munsell Student Set 4th edition is poorly designed, but useable. The small coloured paper chips were often stuck together, so the colour was damaged underneath. I needed to buy some white blu tak to fix the chips into place. It was fiddly to fix the chips, and I was not sure of the order - no guide was given to help me know where to place the chips! Why have removable chips?? A printed chart would have been better. However, once. I finished placing the coloured chips I made my own set of colour swatches. I am also working from 'Controlled Painting' by Frank Covino a book which uses Munsell colour mixing charts for oil painting.I am a student of classical oil painting using Munsell.

Some colour chips damaged to uselessness. Possible manufacturing defect
The textural content of the book is superb and just setting the book up has already begun helping my colour recognition, but I've had two copies of this product and both have suffered from damaged colour chips - in some cases, to the point of uselessness. The chips are provided in blocks, gummed on one edge, which the user has to separate and fix into the book with a temporary adhesive. In both of my copies, some chips got stuck together and, in peeling them apart, either the chips tore or the ink was pulled off the surface. The same colours were affected in both sets, so I suspect that the inks used in printing the chips is at fault. If you buy this product, take caution when separating the the 5YR and 5RP sets, as they're particularly prone to tearing.

This is a great book, really indispensable to those studying art
This is a great book, really indispensable to those studying art, problem with it was that the colour tiles were glued together in around a third of the blocks of tiles, resulting in , not inconsiderable , damage to many as they were separated from each other in order to , follow instructions, counting the tiles to confirm all complete. This rather spoilt the whole exercise. I do not know if the item was discounted, wether the price took account of certain difficulties, or not, maybe look up the retail price and compare. if so then any reason , such as the foregoing, should be stated. So, Caveat emptor !.

Colour chips stuck together and damaged
Why would you use an ink that sticks together with the next chip? Or why assemble them like this? They could have been packaged differently!
