Review: Great Combination - I have been using a Logitech MX Revolution for several years now and it has to be the best mouse I've ever owned. Once before the scroll wheel began to seize up, so I bought a Logitech MX Performance, which I didn't like very much, so I managed to get my Revolution working again and I stashed the MX Performance. Lately, however, the the Revolution finally seems to biting the dust after about six years, so I went on a desperate hunt for another, knowing that it had been discontinued. After finding some very way over-priced models for sale, I finally found this combo for about third of the price of the mouse alone. So far, the keyboard is working good enough. As just a keyboard, this one is quite pleasant to use, although there is something of a learning curve, after using more cramped keyboards for a few years. The keys feel just fine and they are very responsive. I haven't learned to use all the extra features, yet, because I'm just glad that it's a good keyboard and eventually, I'll read the help section to get it all together. What can I say about the mouse? This is really what I was after and except for the Bluetooth arrangement, it's every bit the Revolution that my old model was. The Bluetooth isn't really a problem, but it takes some getting used to. Sometimes the connection is lost when the computer is in Sleep mode or just because. Reconnecting the devices is no problem at all, but you do need to keep the dongle in a front slot of the computer for convenience sake. On my first order, there was a shipping snafu, so I got a refund and ordered another. The day after the second order arrived, I got the first, so having already gotten the first to arrive set up and having been pleased, I just called desertcart and told them I wanted to keep both units and to bill me. Now I have a back-up for that eventual failure and with two, I may not even live that long. P. S. The "manual" that comes with the product is worse than useless, so adapt, improvise, and overcome.
Review: Mouse is awesome, keyboard is battery only - So I actually bought this bundle on the hope that what was described as including the 'mx revolution' mouse really was the same as Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse (Black) . It's not only the same, it's better because it's bluetooth instead of proprietary wireless. Now I don't have to worry about losing the irreplaceable dongle from my old 2006 MX Revolution that they no longer sell the part for. If you're not familiar with this mouse, it has a heavy scroll wheel that you can spin and let go of and it will keep spinning, making it easy to get to the top or bottom of long web pages, documents, etc. Handy for programmers too. The wheel supports side to side motion and clicks as well. Logitech's later mice that have this type of scroll wheel have done away with the best part of what this mouse does; letting you decide how to use it by simply how fast you spin it. The later mice require you to push a button to let it free wheel versus a traditional scroll mouse; this one you just flick it and let go if you want to scroll a ways, or roll it like normal if you don't; no annoying extra button to press to change modes. Other than that, I just really like the geometry of this mouse and Logitech's later offerings never replicated how great this one is. As for the keyboard, unfortunately it is only usable via battery, you can't easily connect a cord to eliminate the need for batteries. However, it takes four AA's 2x2 in parallel, so if you have a DC adapter from Radio Shack or wherever with alligator clips, you could easily supply the necessary 3 volts by just clipping onto the battery prongs and close the cover over the cable. The LCD display on it is mostly useless information, like clock or key press count. Other than that drawback, it works as well as any other keyboard, nothing to write home about. It's convenient if you have a media center type TV that can talk bluetooth since you can get easily 30 feet out of it. Edit: After owning this for a month, I do have one complaint about the mouse. The power lights on it that are supposed to indicate how much it has left are not particularly accurate. It will go from three to one very quickly, and one to no longer powering on just as quick. Since the transmitter stays active to keep it paired with the computer, most likely you'll have instances of waking up and the mouse no longer working. So, probably best to throw it on the charger at the end of the day it drops to one bar if you leave it on all the time and want to use it the next morning.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Wait a minute is this right $800 for a mouse and keyboard ? What is it that makes it worth $800. Ithis must be a misprint !**
A: It's priced so high cause this was the only actual "bluetooth" mouse/keyboard combo Logitech ever made. After this Logitech started doing their own version of bluetooth with the "sync", which pretty much sucked in comparison.
Personally I still think this is the best keyboard/mouse made. I've been using the same one since I purchased it back in like 2003. Picked up a second one still NIB while I was out in Korea, just in case this one ever dies on me.
I can bring this keyboard into the garage with me and still change songs with it while playing music from my sound system in the living room. Unlike "wifi" and "sync" wireless tech, the "bluetooth" devices to me work so much better and can pair with other bluetooth capable devices (yup I've tested it with my bluetooth on my laptop without the dongle and it works fine, now that laptops have built in bluetooth).

**Q: Are there any other mice (Logitech or other) still in production that have the thumb wheel like the mouse in this set?**
A: After my experience with Logitech I hate to support them. BUT, i have never found a mouse to equal the Logitech Revolution mouse. I have five them on my home computers and I feel disabled when I have to use a computer with another mouse. (This is the same mouse that comes with the MX5500 keyboard.) I don't think it is still in production, but it is usually available on Ebay. They are on the expensive side if you get them new, but I have had good luck with reconditioned units. Good luck.

**Q: I want to buy just the Bluetooth mouse. Why doesn't Logitech provide that option?**
A: you can buy it here:http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A2966272&dgc=SS&cid=271316&lid=5009355&acd=12309189100274930

**Q: is there a newer model of mx5500**
A: Yes, but from what I've found on Amazon, it's not NEARLY as wonderful as this one!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very nice product worth the money
*by C***1 on April 2, 2009*

I figure anything in electronics with a 5 year warrantee is worth $140 . I have to have a good keyboard and mouse . I use mine allot . I always have at least one backup . My first cordless started to act up . I believe the mouse just needed a new battery pack but they are expensive . I just stuck two AA batteries in it and it worked but to be safe I decided to purchase new and get rid of the old track ball bottom backup and corded keyboard . I read everything on this . One main complaint is the lack of a number lock . There are only 4 programable favorite keys that set just like a radio . Calculator is only on the LCD screen which is very hard to see in most lighting conditions . Its ok but they could of done better . There are no lit keys . I do hit the document flip allot . You can hit the computer on off button but its rare . However all the key shortcomings are made up for by the mouse if you maximize your learning curve for it . The key rest and stroke are wonderful . I love the feel of this board . The size is nice a tad more compact then my old 910 . The volume control doesnt show the green bar but it works . This takes some getting used too . This is a very nice unit . If you can afford to spend this kind of money without a problem its the one you want . I did not get 30 feet but I did get this to work 20 through a wall just testing it in my 800 sq foot home . What I like about it the most is the size . This is perfect for sitting on my lap . Its smaller then my old 910 . I am pleased and it will take time to get used to it . I will update in 6 months or so . I doubt I will be disapointed . The mouse is unbelievable . It has so many bells and whistles all programable . I did do what others said and went right to logitech and downloaded the latest set point softward its 4.72 right now . I didnt even use the install disk . I saw when I put in set point it also conected and updated the bluetooth hub . That is so nice smaller then a flash drive . This is perfect to be used in the house as a media / laptop saver / server or desktop universal unit . I just can't say enough good things about it . If your a student on a budget get the 110 for $30 it will work fine . Again if you wont sweat the price this is nice . Its the old deal that 10 year battery $30 timex is a great watch nobody needs more but its nice to own a automatic Rolex too . This has come down in price enough to be considerred a reasonable purchase in my mind . You may do better with the wave for strickly business applications but this is wonderful for home use . The blue tooth is not making a single mistake for me and I put the hub in the back of my desktop . Now off to figure out how I can use the hub with my other bluetooth devices . God Bless I am happy to me this package was worth the extra money . This mouse and the document flip features even though I hit it all the time are worth the $$$ . For the poeple that hate how this doesnt use windows calculator just open it then use doc flip . Read through the 77 reviews you will get some very good tips on how to modify this to make it better . People are wonderful about helping others here on Amazon . God Bless .
