Laura Satterfield ~ Dirty Velvet Lie

Whatever happened to Laura?
With Walela, Laura's voice was the perfect contrast to Rita and Priscilla Coolidge. She has a breathy and luscious tone. On her one and only solo CD, the material is relatively weak and does not showcase her talent in the best light. I blame the producer and/or the record company. Unfortunately, Walela is kaput due to the murder of Priscilla Coolidge a couple of years ago. What a tragedy. Laura, who is Priscilla's daughter, has completely disappeared. Online information about her career is virtually non-existent. I wonder what she's up to these days.

Not as great I was hoping
I knew of Laura Satterfield from her song I Know I Don't Walk on Water from the soundtrack of the 1993 movie Made in America with Ted Danson and Whoppie Goldberg. I was trying to find information on Laura Satterfield and didn't really find much about here. I saw she had a solo album (she is/was part of Walela). The album was okay, may be I need to give it another listen, but I much preferred her with her mother and aunt in Walela. The CD is a little pricey, though still under twenty dollars as is typical with independent artists.

The unique Laura....
I first loved her voice when I heard her sing with Walela. And my favourite on that one is the one about the warrior"who waits for me" - it's so deep and beautiful - and SHE wrote it! This is the only album I have ever seen of herswhich was available and it's terrific. Poignant and with that unique sound she has. Wonderful. Very satisfied.Aloha.

What happened to Laura? Come back and give us new music!
I purchased this CD at the late and very great Tower records in San Francisco when it first came out and was lucky enough to see Laura on the short tour for it in Berkeley CA. When I saw her with Walela (the native music trio with her mother Priscilla Coolidge and her Aunt Rita) in Yosmite in 1998 it is still to this day one of my top five concerts and I have seen hundreds. I am moving and going through my CDs and I found this and put it on. Lauras voice is like no other I have ever heard - it is like honey. It is breathy and sexy without ever being cloying. Its no mistake that she seems to be channeling Marilyn Monroe on the art for this album. If Marilyn was a new century modern soul singer that is. What happened to you Laura? will we ever get any new music? Even Googling you reveals nothing. Well I hope we will hear you again but in the meantime we can listen to this over and over. Standouts are Naked and Scared, Let Me lay You down, Many rivers to cross, Kiss me like im Dying and Crippled Crow a track originally meant for Walela. Also on the first Walela album check out I dont walk on Water - her first single. If you dont have their two albums plus the live album you are really missing out.

An Artist with an expression of Soul and Truth
Laura Satterfield truly makes a unique appearance into music as we know it....this one cannot be pigeon holed into any music category other than it's unique. The arrangements, lyrics, and style....along with great Studio work make this CD a worthwhile purchase....I myself truly enjoy it's quality, and never leave home without it....this is a must have. Laura's work also appears on Walela CDs featuring her Mother, Priscilla Coolige, and her Aunt, Rita Coolige....these are also must haves.

Laura is awesome
Laura Satterfield is a soulful artist. This is a great CD. Luara also appears as part of Walela with her mother, Pricilla Coolidge and aunt, Rita Coolidge. She definitely has the fine spiritual content of her family!
