If you look at the other heaters for sale in the 400K BTU range you'll notice reviews regarding burned up controls. Once you purchase the cheaper heater and end up replacing the controls in a year you will have spent as much as this unit in the first place. Our company has used Lochinvar equipment in commercial applications for 10 years and we have had excellent reliability from them so I decided to use them for a personal application. So far this unit performs far beyond our expectations for heating the pool rapidly and maintaining temperature accurately. I'm very pleased with it.

I bought the 400 000 pool heater because I want it to heat up the pool quickly when the weather is good for swimming. This pool heater is great for that: it heats up the pool in just a couple of hours - when it works!Unfortunately the heater quite often malfunctions and then one needs a technician to come from a distance and that takes time and money: lots of money! The company that services the pool charges about $ 100 per hour and that includes travel time. So each time there is a little repair it costs me at least $ 600 or more. So far I have needed at least three technician visits every year! So my advice: buy this pool heater only if you have local technicians with a familiarity with Lochinvar pool heaters available to you.

Lochinvar sucks with a red hot passion. I own three of these green POS’s. DO NOT BUY ONE. Buy a used burnam anything. Avoid “high efficiency” like the plague.
