Instructions URL wrong
Working in my CECHP01. Shipped promptly. The enclosed note directs you to a web site for installation instructions, and that URL redirects to a not found page on a different site. Apparently they aren't sure whether their name is "nextek" or "nextec". After a little hunting, the URL you need is http://www.nextecdirect.com/ps3-drive-410aca/ as of 2015-07-17. The video there is a bit confusing in these aspects: it appears to show a man replacing the daughterboard on an existing drive with a new board, when what you need to do is remove the board from the existing drive and install it on the new drive; and he tells you as an aside to install two screws after putting on half of the metal shell but before the other half, when if you do that you're going to have to remove those screws later and reinstall them because they are meant to hold down both metal shells. Now this next part is no fault of the drive - the connection of the data cable to the drive is very touchy. If you put everything back together and find that the drive will eject a disc but will not draw one in, the problem may be that data cable connection. You have to flip up the tab, really jam the cable in, and push the tab back down. This is really awkward to do because they don't leave much slack in the cable.

Good replacement drive
not to expensive, however drive didnt come with board. I'm lucky that my board for the drive wasnt bad. I wasnt sure which piece was bad, weather board, drive motor. or laser, so i thought buying this for the price i wouldnt have to take a chance. I would recommend, but be sure that its the drive, not the controller board. That is why 4 and not 5 stars. Prompt shipping.

Worth the effort
The slot-load drive on my PS3 (80 GB model) died after many years of faithful service. The cost of a new drive was significantly cheaper than a new/used PS3. A little research on how to replace a drive and I felt confident I could swap the old one for a new drive. This worked great. However, you should know that there is a little bit of work to be done on your part. Besides opening up the PS3 and disconnecting old drive, the circuit board attached to the old drive will need to be removed from that one and installed on the new drive. Also, make sure you check your model number against the drive you are purchasing. There are plenty of good videos on YouTube and step-by-step how-to guides out there. If you're willing to take a little time, your PS3 can be up and running, good as new.

Not tested for functionality yet...will provide updates when tested
Well do not pay attention to this picture. It is bare bones, meaning it is only the laser within the plastic housing you DO NOT get the metal housing or the circuit board due to the board being dependent on your PS3 motherboard. The 2 boards must be from the same model PS3 or main board and Blu-ray drive circuit board are paired sometimes referred to as "married".

Works perfectly and installation was relatively easy but I do recommend being very careful when detaching and reinserting the ribbon connectors. The smaller two are rigid and require that you pull the ribbon out using the blue tab and the larger one requires carefully flipping the small black clip up so you can remove the ribbon. The first drive I ordered using free delivery was never received and the Amazon sales rep promptly refunded the full purchase to my credit card. For the second order using standard delivery everything went to plan so five stars. Just be sure you get the right product for your specific PS3 as I had to disassemble my PS3 to find the Bluray drive model number that was inside the silver metal enclosure (that you must reuse along with the printed circuit board from your original drive chassis).

Perfect Replacement
Does exactly the job it is meant to do: replace a busted drive. Just crack open the case, pop out the old drive, transfer the board and casing from the old onto the new, and you're back in business. The only problem I had with the drive was a fault of my own - I bent a ribbon just the wrong way and it rubbed against the disc as it was spinning, creating a loud, unpleasant buzzing noise. I looked everywhere for a fix and couldn't find one, only to realize my simple mistake while on the verge of giving up. So, if your new drive is a little louder than you expected, check the ribbons and make sure the disc has a clear path to spin.

Worth Every Penny.
To those who are trying to fix their PS3 BD. Make sure you keep the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) from your old BD as your PS3 requires it to be identical. Also, make sure you order the correct BD to your model PS3, use the chart they provide to insure you get the right model. My BD stopped playing disc's after a surge hit it. It took out the motor, so it no longer spins the disc even though the lasers my still be ok. However, the laser is known to fail sooner or later with the 40gig an earlier models so I figured I may as well just invest in a new drive. Good doing business with ya Nextek

Easy to replace the drive and the new unit works perfectly. When buying this unit, just realize you need to move over 2 items off the old unit so make sure you do not throw away the old one before watching a video on how to replace it.

Well done, Nextec
First of all, the delivery. Wow. Well done you guys, I have never ordered something on Saturday morning and had it arrive on Sunday morning with free delivery. When the email came through telling me the item was out for delivery, I thought they had made a mistake. Nope. There it was. Amazing. If you are having disc read errors, or if the drive is making a grinding or clicking noise, or if the disk simply isn't detected by the PlayStation any more, this product is for you. After cracking open my old PS3 I had a quick goosey at the model number and found this drive to be the best match. Of course there is always that moment where you think to yourself "It's going to be wrong. I just know I've ordered the wrong one". My advice; do your research first. I opened up my PS3 Blu-Ray drive just to be sure, the model number can be found on the metal laser assembly inside the drive. Find this number if you are not sure which to order. My PS3 is one of the 40gb models and had the KEM-410ACA Laser. After a really quick swap-out, thanks largely to the fact I had prior knowledge of the device, I had my PS3 up and running again. So, so happy. The PS3 is still the only place you can play some exclusive games, so for me it was worth the 20-odd quid.Bear in mind you MUST CAREFULLY remove the chip attached to the currently installed Blu-Ray drive and re-attach it to the new unit. It really is a simple job, though, so don't be put off. There are only about 12 screws you have to unscrew to complete this job and 7 of them are on the outside of the case.If you have a temperamental PS3 that only occasionally reads discs and you fancy playing it again, buy one of these. I'm glad I did. 6 stars.

Sony PS3 Blu-ray drive
The PS3 Blu-ray drive was delivered very quickly, was easy to install using the great online installation guides and I now have a very happy Grandson with his PS3 working perfectly. I was particularly impressed by the information provided by Nextek, one of the images they provided is a chart showing the PS3 model numbers and the appropriate Blu-ray drive model number, this gave me the confidence to order knowing that I was ordering the correct drive. All this good service at a price considerably lower than most other vendors, and they give you a T10 torx tool as well!

Good drive.
Bought this for a 2008 80gb model.Be aware that you need to take your Ps3 apart and fit components on to the new Disc Drive from the old one. It's all fairly straight forward and I allowed my 14 year old some to tackle the job on his own which he did admirably.Drive works a treat and the old ps3 is now up and running.Great product.

Brilliant product that a monkey could install...
Excellent product and surprisingly easy to install using the online text and picture guide. Sony wanted Β£120 so a 75% discount for what will probably take most people no more than 30 mins labour time is a bargain in anyone's book - this is the first device I've ever fixed myself and I managed it with a hangover!!Short of it - is your PS3 fat blu ray drive broken? If the answer to that question is yes then buy this product, simple as that. Also you get a Β£3 rebate simply for writing a review!

Brilliant quick, easy and much cheaper alternative to buying a new PS3
Brilliant ! Just saved myself a fortune by buying this drive from Nextek. Very simple to fit using their online guides. I have never taken a PS3 apart before but didn't want to pay for a new PS3. Fitted this in about 45 mins (and I am useless at this sort of thing !!!)I now have a fully working PS3 and could not be happier. I would not hesitate to buy from Nextek again. One very hapoy customer !
