Exactly what I wanted - Updated
UPDATE: 11/30/2016Over time, the display becomes less and less readable. This happens over the course of a year or more though. I came back to amazon to buy a replacement like I planned before. However, this has tripled in price. Yes, tripled! I originally bought this for $4.42 and now it's $15.30. That is a huge jump and given how difficult it is to read and the lifespan of the product, I knocked a star off since the value is no longer there. What would have been a simple purchase of 1 or 2 more of these has now caused me to look around to see what else is out there.ORIGINAL REVIEW:This thing works great and does exactly what I need. How difficult is it for a company to make a thermometer that shows the current temp along with a min and max for the day? Apparently REALLY difficult since this one and one other one were the ONLY ones I could find on Amazon. I took a chance with this one to be used inside my kegerator and it has worked great ever since. It was also super cheap too. So that's another plus.If I had to complain about something, I would say that it's a little hard to read where I have it set (Kind of hanging on one of the kegs). But I could probably spend some time and find a better location for it.I might buy a couple more as backups in case I ever damage this one since it has already fallen a dozen times already due to me moving things around. While it still works great, I'm simply paranoid that one of these falls might be its last because of how inexpensive it was.

It works, but instruction are inadequate
I usually don't review products unless I can add something to the dialog and until I've used them awhile. I received two max-min thermometer today. It is very hard to open the top of the unit. I thought it would break because I had to exert so much force--cutesy but BAD design. The instructions are not very useful. It would of helped if they pictured the location of the "buttons." They are inside the battery/circuit board compartment. I didn't notice them when I activated the battery. After some fumbling around, I managed to get the compartment open again and found the buttons [the roof of the "house" comes off, exposing the batteries and controls.] From there it was very easy to change settings.I'm concerned that when I try to open the compartment, soon or later I'll break the unit. I can't say anything about accuracy at this point. The suction cup won't stick to the insides of my upright freezer. The sides have a very slight "orange-peel" texture. Three stars may be generous but this is exactly what I wanted: something simple, accurate?, and inexpensive to monitor temperature in 2 freezers used for brewing/dispensing beer. Time will tell if this was a wise purchase.I tried to find better instructions at the companies website. This model is not listed anywhere on that site!! Go figure!

Working on original battery for over 14 months and still going strong!
I purchased this thermometer 14 months ago. I put the battery in and am still using the original battery. It has shown no sign of dying and since there is no power switch it is on 24/7.I cannot say for sure how accurate the temperature is but it definitely serves its purpose which is to sit on top of my equipment rack for all my home theater gear in a dedicated equipment room that houses amplifiers, computers, blu-ray drives, etc.I like that it displays down to the tenth of a degree but I do believe it rounds as I have never seen it change in less than .2 degree increments. The only thing I would change or wish was better was the contrast. It lays pretty flat on top of the equipment rack and every time I want to see the temperature I have to tilt it up just a bit.If it had an adjustable contrast it would be perfect but I still highly recommend.

Did not work
When I received this, I took out the plastic battery strip, but there was no function at all. I put in another battery -still no function -blank screen. Amazon refunded my money, but I would not buy this again. Also, I think that any thermometer attached directly to a window pane will be influenced by the temperature of the glass. Even with double paned windows, the temperature readings will not be accurate. I am going to try one that months on the frame and doesn't contact the glass.

Very nice for the price!
These nice, inexpensive little thermometers are great. You MUST read the instructions, though to get it going. They place a guard inside so that the battery doesn't wear down while waiting for you to buy it! I love the high/low feature- tells you the high for the day and starts over at 8:00AM and the low feature which starts over at 8:00PM. You put them right in your window with the suction cup and you always know the outdoor temperature.

They arrived with no instructions but look like they are solar powered
I purchased two of these. They arrived with no instructions but look like they are solar powered, though it turns out they are not. Conseqeuntly, I couldn't use them to measure the temperature for the application I intended on holiday. If the top part actually opens, this is not apparent at all from the case... it seems like you'd have to break the top part to open it.I have tons of electronics and this design is just counter-intuitive. Why have stickers that say peel off that have no instructions about the battery?

It works and yes it has a replaceable battery.
I've read some strange reviews, but let me say:1) It works.2) It works by battery power.3) Remove the top (it's not that hard) and you can replace the battery.4) It will then work another year or two.

works well
I bought this for my son who liked mine. mine is similar and also simple to install and see. Not expensive or complex so perfect for the average user who musts wants to see what the outside temperature is.
