I don't use the correction tape because I type on carbon copy paper a lot. This information comes from the owner manual. The ribbon is enough to get started, but either I typed more than I thought or this was a starter kit. It wasn't hard to find a replacement ribbon at my local Staple store. **Q: Is it correcting?** A: It does a wonderful job of correcting. You can do just one letter or the whole word. The correction tape really lasts. I am on my third ribbon and still haven't changed the tape and I do make mistakes!! This typewriter is great for the price. To correct you hit the backspace and then the correction key at the bottom near the space bar. To do a whole word you do the correction key at the top right with no backspace. I hope this helps. **Q: Is this good for writing long documents, such as a novel?** A: The Brother SX-4000 is an amazing machine and I don't see any reason why long documents couldn't be typed on it. However, I have never attempted to type for long hours on end, so I am not really qualified to answer this question. **Q: What type of font is included in the package, e.g. Times New Roman** A: On mine you cannot change the font, however, you can change the pitch, underline & bold your type. Every single time I take it out to use it, I have to run a test sheet through to make sure the ribbons are lined up - they get knocked out of place extremely easily. Can't tell you how many red-ink, scannable IRS forms I have ruined in the beginning when I kept forgetting to test it and the correction ribbon was out of place again. In general, the construction is pretty substandard. Definitely go with a Smith Corona instead. UPDATE: As has been mentioned in the comments, Smith Corona hasn't manufactured typewriters since 2005. Best I can tell, Brother is now the only company in the entire world selling typewriters. UPDATE: Used this typewriter for over two years now, and still a piece of junk. Luckily, I don't need it very often - pretty sure it would have fallen apart if used on even a weekly basis.
