The shampoo is very thin,but it really lathers up well & smells wonderful. Don't be alarmed when you see a grayish oily scum in the rinse water. It is from the essential oils. The dog's coat may feel a little oily when you rinse it, but be patient as the coat will feel so soft once it drys. Once I blow dry my dog, his fur fluffs up & is coat is so soft! The essential oils hydrate his skin & help with his itching. I also spray argan oil on his coat & massage it in between shampoos. He loves the massage & the argan oil helps his dry, itchy skin. I love the fact that it is organic. I have to be very careful of everything I use on his skin. I can no longer use any steroid products on him as he developed diabetes 2 years ago (probably due to all the steroids he was on for over 10 years. I won't make that mistake again!) Manufacturers who market tear-free products are adding a numbing chemical to hide the stinging that occurs when soap comes into contact with the eye (dog and human). Sounds good, but the problem is that the chemicals they use to create the numbing have been linked to the destruction of proteins necessary for visual development in puppies, and cataracts in adult dogs. Not good. So, the bottom line is that if you accidentally get 4-Legger shampoo in your dog's eye, it might not feel very good for a few minutes but it's not going to harm your dog's eyes or long term eye health. Thanks for the question. **Q: Can I add tea tree oil 100% pure and organic ? Or need to be a special one for dogs ? Thx!** A: Hi Micaela, you can definitely add tea tree oil to the shampoo, but as you stated make sure it is a very high grade of essential oil - like organic or at a minimum, therapeutic/medical grade. I would suggest using a small bottle and mix your formulation in a small batch instead of adding it into your full size bottle. Use the rule: you can always add more, but you can't take it out once it's in! Essential oils are very strong so just a drop or two should be plenty. Yes, all of our 4-Legger shampoo formulations are pH balanced for a dog's more sensitive skin/coat. Dogs have thinner skin than humans so whatever is put on them, absorbs much more quickly. Shampoos or products that are pH balanced for humans will destroy your dogs acid mantle, which is its most important protection to help the immune system guard against infection and fungus. There really is no such thing as tear-free shampoo. Unfortunately that doesn't stop most companies from using it as a marketing term to get sales. The truth is that even ones that claim to be tear free, have just added MORE chemicals to neutralize the stinging effect of the other chemicals that are already in it. So, a "tear free" shampoo really just means there are even more harmful chemicals in it - nobody wants that for their pup! Even worse, the chemical that other companies normally use to make their shampoo "tear free" has been linked to cataracts in dogs, which can lead to blindness! Even worse for puppies since the "tear free" chemical can destroy the protein necessary for visual development. Sorry this is a long answer, but it's important information and it is an excellent question. We do not recommend using 4-Legger in such a way that it comes in contact with your dogs eyes...just as you wouldn't use a soap product around your own eyes. There is no chemical in our product that would hurt your dogs eyes, but it might not be be very comfortable, so just use care and common sense during bath time. Prior to my discovery, I had gone through many brands. Some were harsh, some didn't foam to my liking, others left a residue, still others dried their skin and dulled their coat, and finally there were those shampoos that smelled worse than mud and muck .... for days on end. I was drawn to this shampoo because of its ingredient simplicity (organic oils of coconut, olive and jojoba, oil blend of rosemary and lemongrass, rosemary extract and aloe vera) and the fact that it is saponified oil soap, which is about as close to natural or organic as one can buy. The directions added a smile: "Shake well before use (the bottle - not the dog)" and in this day and time, the clarification is probably wise. It is further directed to use warm water; given my dogs have an "outdoor shower facility" consisting of a hose attached to a water faucet, they have to settle for cool water (living in South Florida there is no such thing as cold running water). With much anticipated disappointment, I tried 4 Legger Dog shampoo and was astonished and amazed. It foams nicely with only a small amount for each body quadrant needed (despite the instructions to "liberally apply"). I do massage deeply, partly to remove all mud and muck, partly to check their bodies for any lumps, bumps, and hitchhikers, and partly because who doesn't like a deep massage! It rinses out easily and quickly leaving them literally squeaky clean down to their skin. Their coats are left soft and shiny. The fragrance is refreshingly light and clean and lingers on their bodies and on one's hands for about 30 or so minutes; I'm half tempted to buy a bottle for my personal use! Perhaps with more 5 star reviews a 2 Legger Human Shampoo will be available. It should be easy enough by simply crafting an additional label changing the "4" to a "2" and nothing else! Attached are before and after pictures of my one dog. My Giant refused to be photographed, naked, tethered to a pole and tortured (his word, not mine) with organic dog shampoo and water. However, I did manage to covertly video the after 4-Legger after bath euphoria. Bottom line: This is a 5-star worthy shampoo and my dogs are worthy of only the best I can find for them!
