I pull on the spring loaded ram with one hand and hold on to the frame with the other hand. It is easy for hand to slip off the frame. It is important to get the trigger in position before setting trap so the latch falls in place when the ram is pulled back. In any case it is difficult to set this trap. **Q: Will this trap / kill Voles??** A: I seriously doubt it. I have been trying for over a month and have not caught any. I would not buy this style for voles or moles. **Q: Does this "catch" or "kill" the moles? If kill, do I have to dispose of the dead critter or just leave it in the ground?** A: This trap is designed to kill the moles. We do not have a specific recommendation to dispose of the rodent or keep it in the ground. That would be a personal preference. **Q: How much hand strength does it take to release the trap? I am a woman. I admit I don't have much upper body strength. I cannot release spring traps** A: This type of trap requires a little bit of finesse ( to set the latch properly) and a medium amount of strength to actuallyset the spring portion of the trap. maybe about 10 - 15 pounds of force. By comparison, the type in which the mole has to actually run between the jaws requires a significantly larger force ( about 30 pounds) to set the spring. These force estimates are my own guess only. I remember my grandfather using these quite effectively growing up and catching moles. These traps definitely take some trial and error. Not only in learning how to lock them into place, but how to place them correctly in the ground to catch a mole. After a little over a month, I got the hang of it and over the course of about 4 months I have caught 11 moles with 4-5 different traps. These take some time to get use to but they do work great in catching moles. It definitely takes some time to get used to it and it is user error if people say it doesn't work. Major issues for me: A few issues for me is that it doesn't always kill the mole and I have to finish the job, which is not pleasant.
