DecentGadget Ultrasonic Thickness Meter Tester Gauge Velocity 1.2~225mm Metal Wave

When I received the first unit I tried it out with the transducer (probe) that came with the unit. I inserted new batteries, hooked up the transducer and calibrated it as per manual on the calibration disc on the unit. I then changed the sound velocity to my known material sample (metal bar with perfectly flat surface) with 1.6 mm thickness. The readings were different every time I placed the transducer on the sample, sometimes it would display 1.6 mm (correct value), sometimes it would display 3.2 mm (double of the actual thickness of the sample). I tried many times, made sure there was plenty of coupling agent applied, did the calibration again multiple times, but the issue with the inconsistent readings persisted.Trying to troubleshoot the error, I grabbed another transducer from another thickness gauge I had in the lab (same transducer model) hooked it up to this thickness gauge and calibrated it. Now with this different transducer, the instrument performed just fine, no erratic readings, it would always display the correct 1.6 mm thickness each time I put the probe on the sample metal bar.When changing the transducer back to the original one that came with this instrument, the error with erratically showing double the actual sample thickness of 3.2 mm returned. So at this point, it looked like the meter was fine, but the included transducer was defective.So I requested to get a replacement transducer from the seller.After 2 weeks, I received the replacement transducer, which had the same issue. At this point, the seller stopped responding to my emails, so I contacted Amazon customer service. They wanted me to return the whole unit with defective transducers and sent me another new unit to try out before issuing a full refund, so I gave that a shot.Now I have received a new unit with new transducer, tried it out on the same sample piece and I’m still having the same issue of it randomly displaying double the actual thickness.So this thing is going back for a refund and I definitely won’t be buying this model ever again.The fact that the meters themselves were always working ok, while all the transducers seem to be having issues, makes one wonder if the transducers are probably the most expensive part of the unit and they just used off spec / reject transducers to keep the cost down. Bottom line – these gauges are not worth the hassle, buy something else, especially if you use them for measuring something where you have no other means to confirm the reading.

Easy to use. Accurate to within a couple of thousands. Did the thickness measurements we needed where no other method less than an x-ray would work. For the cost, a good, workable solution to thickness measurements in some hard to reach places.

What I liked isabout this item is that it is good for determining if gold and silver bullion rounds (coins) are pure and not fake!

Good looking and simple product; however the velocity feature does not work. I cannot adjust this to match the material I am trying to measure. In fact there is no way to adjust this. The up or down arrows achieve nothing. Connect transducer; switch on and wait for start-up to finish; press VEL and nothing happens. Pressing up or down arrow does nothing.

Purchased one of these for work and it was very easy to use and setup. In fact we purchased a second one due to how good the first one was.

This is exactly what I needed to measure the thickness of box sections and plates that I can't get vernier callipers on to.

Didn't actually work for my application but it was at the edge of the performance they claimed.
