They do not need to be cleaned regularly. Mine lasted over three years. **Q: I have a BBQ grid measurement is 35.5 * 19 and the side burner is 14.5 * 9. Is your the right replacement?** A: This is an exact replacement, so Yes is the answer. **Q: Why do all the pictures show the holes in the low area of the grids Except for the last picture which shows them in the top portion of the grid** A: The holes are indeed on the top of the ridges.I was concerned about the pictures as well but it might just be an optical illusion. Bear in mind these are generic emitter plates and likely not an exact match. For my grill, the grates do not lock in over the emitter plate holes. They can move around and do not fit as closely to the grill plates. This allows for uneven cooking and more clogging of the holes. The peaks and valleys are not as deep and tall. This may allow the cast iron grate to slide a little as the one that came with the grill held the grates in place. I don't' think that is going to be a big problem. The holes in the top of the peaks are larger the original and that may be a plus.
