This product is very, very sticky. So sticky it sticks to your fingers, and that can be frustrating. Get over it and see my solution below. But, it does what it's supposed to do. It attaches to your tree or house (in my case, it's the house) and insects that crawl over it get stuck and die. We have a HUGE problem with Spotted Lantern Flies this year, and I was desperate for something to tackle the problem. The nymphs start each day on the ground and climb up the side of our house. The tape has been up for an hour, and I've already caught more than 10 nymphs and one adult. I can't wait to see what this looks like a day or two from now. There are some reviewers who complain the tape is flimsy or comes apart when it's wet. Let me address this first. The tape is quite thin. But I assure you it's not so thin that it breaks when you wrap it around a tree or anything else. Anyone who claims that is pulling way too hard. It has not become wet yet, but will this evening when the sprinkler goes on, and I will update my review. In the meantime, here's how to get around the stick-to-your-fingers issue. Tear or cut off a 1" strip of tape and make several small 1/4" wide strips, then gently stick those where you can reach them. Then cut the length of tape you want and use one of the 1/4" strips to hold it in place. Take a few more strips and tack it down more. When you press the small strip against the long piece of tape, make sure your finger is pressing on the non-sticky back of the tape, and you'll have no problem lifting your finger and leaving the tape in place. It's not pretty but it's very effective. You might have other challenges wrapping the tape around a tree, but I've seen suggestions ranging from push pins to staple guns. Bottom line, it needs a little help to remain wrapped around a tree.

They do work. We must have caught thousands of the little baby lantern flies in spring, the red with white spotted older ones and now ( mid September) adults.. They need to be replaced several times throughout the season We have had to rescue a couple little birds. one this year and one last year. Luckily we found them before they died. Check the tape often. A little olive oil will help very gently remove them if stuck. Dawn bath after, gave a little drink of water, let dry and recoup a bit then released. They seemed ok. One was stuck to the side off a tree. The other last year was stuck to our deck railing where we had a strip of tape because the lantern flies seemed to congregate there. Just check the tapes daily. Those table Salt shooters are kind of fun to help control these lantern flies too.

These were my go-to traps for controlling spotted lanternflies. The new box arrived, and I immediately noticed the difference. The paper is much cheaper, and the adhesive is noticeably less sticky. The quality of the new product is very disappointing. These traps worked great last year, but the current version feels like a significant downgrade. Instead of staying stuck, the lanternflies simply jump right off the paper. Terrible quality compared to last year’s version.

I have mixed feelings about this product. I purchased this to put around my maples because of Spotted Lantern Flys attaching them. The paper does catch the insects. You will have to change it out. The paper lasts, but the paper will lose its stickiness. The main issue is that the paper will tear easily when you are trying to wrap it around the tree. This can be a problem for trees with large trunks, especially if you are trying to do it by yourself. You then have to use thumbtacks and be very careful. I ended up wasting some of the paper because when it ripped, it folded on itself and stuck. Once installed, it does work.

Within 12 hours of wrapping this around our maple tree, we had caught about 50 spotted lantern flies. This is our first summer dealing with this plague and I was very worried about our aging maple (they seem to go for sappy trees) and our 80+ year old oak tree in particular. This product has worked very well! I haven't had a problem catching many beneficial insects or small birds/animals and we have used this on about 5-6 trees in a heavily bird populated yard. I am puzzled how birds could get stuck as another review stated. We wrapped the tape tightly around the tree trunks several feet off the ground and away from any branches. It's a not a spot where birds would be able to land so I don't see any way for them to get stuck. With the tape wrapped tightly at the trunk away from branches, birds are unable to fly close enough to the tape/tree trunk to reach the tape. I haven't found any bees or butterflies stuck in it thankfully. I did find one daddy long-legged spider and a June bug I was able to free. A moth I was not. Many flies. Our neighbor squirrel has not gotten stuck in this to date. I feel this is much safer to use than pesticides while still hopefully preventing devastating loss from invasive insects. PROS: The stickiness does a great job catching insects, it it is much more sticky than something like duct tape or regular double-sided tape and retains it's stickiness after a heavy rain. CONS: While it is easy to unwrap the tape and cut it, if you have a medium-large tree you will find it much easier to wrap with 2 people. One to hold the roll in place while the other rolls it around and cuts. TIPS: Be sure to wrap this tightly around the tree. It works by catching the insects as they crawl up the trunk, and you don't want them having enough space to crawl underneath. You may need to angle the tape a bit to adjust the fit before you join the ends together to hold it in place. If you have an extreme plague like our area of the country currently has, with larger insects like the spotted lantern fly, you may want to put up 2 layers of tape, one above the other. We noticed that the tape will get filled after a few days and the living insects can climb over the dead carcasses of the stuck insects to reach the tree. 2 layers seemed to help catch any insects that made it through the first layer.

I was determined to be on top of the Spotted LAntern Fly issue this year and know that the battle all begins with the Nymphs as they hatch, this tape was my first purchase and one that I will buy and stock up on. PLEASE COVER WITH A LIGHT CHICKENWIRE!!! I simply cut a piece of chicken wire and gave it a contour to lay over the tape, the bark on my tree is so rigid that there was no nailing needed to hold the wire in place but this part is IMPORTANT because this tape is so sticky that it will for sure catch unwanted allies such as the yard birds and no one wants that. This tape has stayed perfectly sticky even after all the fierce rains thats we have had lately. The only reason I’ve changed this tape is because it caught so many nymphs that there was barely room for more. I’ve taken out tens of thousands of Nymphys thanks to this wonderful product. It is super simple to use too. Just unroll it while you all around the tree and stick it to itself firmly around the trunk. This was money well spent as you can see in the photo.

This tape really works. Together with the Green Net Traps I have caught hundreds of the Spotted Lantern Flies that have killed my grape arbor and r attacking my Sugar Maples!!! It’s a bit difficult to put it up & around the trees because of their size. I use a staple gun to attach the strips. Thumb tacks don’t really work well because the bark is too tough and u end up getting ur hands stuck on the tape. However, one it is up IT IS VERY EFFECTIVE! SLFs usually climb up in lines or groups like ants so they climb over each other. Use several strips one after another, look and the pics i have posted and u can see just how many r caught. Replace tape weekly or whatever

These tree barrier traps worked far better than I expected. I wrapped them around my trees at the beginning of the season, and they immediately started catching lantern flies, ants, and many other crawling insects. The adhesive remained effective for a long time. I only had to replace the barrier once during the summer because it became completely covered with insects, which says a lot about how well it worked. Installation was quick and straightforward, and the rolls were easy to cut to the required length. If you're looking for a simple, chemical-free way to help protect your trees from crawling pests, this product works like a charm. It was one of the most effective insect control products I've used, and I'll definitely be buying it again.

Recently used the Catchmaster Tree Shield on several of my young trees, and it worked exceptionally well in preventing ants and other crawling insects from reaching the canopy. The adhesive strip was easy to apply and stayed securely in place, providing a strong, chemical-free barrier that gave me peace of mind throughout the season.

Garbage, tape broke from the wind, or it did not stick at all. Extremely thin and tears easily. Duct tape or packing tape would work better. Their is no way anybody would recommend this product.. Cheapest product I've seen in years. Quality is the worst I've ever seen.
