Pleased with the Quality of this Product
I read the previous reviews of the 1941 Maltese Falcon Prop Statue. Many years ago, I ordered a Falcon statue and found it very unsatisfactory. But in this case, the picture displayed on Amazon looks so much like the real movie prop in the film that I decided to chance a second order. The statue comes as advertised in a burlap bag, packed with oriental newspaper clippings, and labeled Sam Spade. It is a dull shade of black and has lots of good detail work. It is one foot tall (much like the real prop). I decided to add just a little furniture polish to give a highlight to the detail. The statue is very light weight and looks great on bookcases or on a table under a lamp.I am very pleased with this purchase and am glad I decided to try again. The "Maltese Falcon", has always been one of my favorite Bogart movies and I liked the idea of owning something inspired by the film. It was nice to find such a quality work on Amazon.Robert James MoonAtlanta

GREAT PRODUCT
I bought this, Maltese Falcon reproduction, for my husband for Christmas. Since this is his favorite movie, I hoped it would be all that the description said. Both he and I were elated when he opened it. The likeness is incredible and exactly as described on the site. It came wrapped in newspaper with twine with the tag "Sam Spade" on it. Great gift item for all the Falcon fans.

Maltese Falcon
The way it was packaged was terrific. My only complaint is the size of the Maltese Falcon. Compare to the original version, this one looks like junior size. I'm somewhat disappointed.

The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of...
I've had replicas of the "Black Bird" in the past (always wound up giving them away to friends,) but this one will stay with me. First, the packaging is so cool, I'm tempted to order another one, just to keep a "wrapped" version on the shelf behind it. It appears to be based on the same model that my earlier replicas were cast from, so I must conclude that molds were made from one of the original prop "birds" that passed through a few other hands over the years (much like "The Falcon" itself.) The size is perfect, (just screen the film again, and watch how Bogart cradles it in the last scene,) although, I do believe that the lead "Hero" version that Sidney Greenstreet carved up was slightly larger...All in all, a great replica of one of the most iconic props in film history (although, I'm still waiting for somebody to do a "Rosebud," or, at the very least, the snow-globe...)

The packaging makes it!
I got this as a Christmas present for my fiance, who loves noire and especially "The Maltese Falcon." He had specifically asked me for one of these statues and guessed that I was buying it for him for Christmas, but he did not expect it to come in packaging that replicated the film so closely. He was definitely surprised and thought that was really cool.

Cheap example...
When I was a Boy Scout we made lots of plaster statues using Plaster of Paris and rubber molds. The Maltese Falcon looks and feels just like that. The paint is an insufficient flat black. White plaster showed through is several spots. The base was rough and unfinished. I think this item was cheaply made and is worthy of the trash can. However, rather than take the time to return it, as I needed it for a presentation, I asked some kids from an art class to touch it up and repair it. They used a more sightly glossy paint. It now rests on my book shelves while I hope nothing will upset it because any little knock will cause the plaster to chip and/or break.
