Don’t waste your time with this one!
5 stars as in the disc works well. But the movie is 1/5 stars. This movie was so disappointing. Afterlife was way better. You shouldn’t waste your time with this one, only get it if you’re a completist & want to get the whole franchise on dvd.

Not nearly as bad as internet trolls would have you believe.
Like most kids born in the early 80s, Ghostbusters was a huge factor in my life. Die hard fan and still buy merch in my 30s. I read some Ghostbusters comics (TMNT/Ghostbusters, etc..) here and there. I have bought these movies countless times on VHS, DVD and now Blu-ray. I pre-ordered the Real Ghostbusters DVD in the Firehouse back when it was first available. So make no mistake, I'm a Ghostbusters fan. I was one of the groaners as info on this started being leaked. I didn't have a problem with them being women, but the reboot in general. I hate reboots. Two minutes of tying in the old with the new and I would have been fine, but they didn't take that route -- so I was not looking forward to this. However I kept my opinions to myself. Now that my credentials are out of the way, we can move forward. My daughter (7) was dying to see this movie. Naturally she was attracted to it because they're girls. I didn't want to pay to see it in the theater as I just planned on buying it when it came out. We finally watched the first two because I wanted her to see the originals and why I loved them and continue to love them so much. As expected, she also loved them. So, Wednesday we pop the movie in and start watching. I see her kind of squirming a bit at the intro and by the time we're about 10 minutes in as the ladies are about to encounter the first ghost she's acting a bit odd. It was admittedly creepy for a 7 year old and certainly more "advanced" than the originals. Not wanting to deal with a "I can't sleep/I had a nightmare" marathon on a weeknight, we decide to turn it off. Not typically her M.O. but we were going into uncharted territory. However, in the first 10 minutes alone it had grabbed my attention, given me a few chuckles and honestly was a bit disappointed we had to bail.Friday my wife and I decide to finish it while she's in school. We had some good laughs and there were a good amount throwback references. There were definitely parts where it was a little slower and sort of felt like it was just dragging along -- but we also watched the Extended cut over the theatrical, so it very well could have been a result of the extended cut. We both feel that Kate McKinnon stole the show. We found her adorable. But all four of them got a laugh out of us at some point or another.Look, it is the best movie ever? Definitely not.Is it worthy of the hate it received? Definitely not.Is there an underlying feminist agenda? Definitely not. However, Chris Hemsworth was a bit over the top on the stupidity level. Not sure what this was pandering to, or if it was just meant to get cheap laughs (which in some cases it did).Do I feel like any less of a Ghostbusters fan for liking the movie? Hell no.It was a fun flick, and as a Ghostbusters fan gave me something new. My daughter will watch it shortly (oddly enough the part she was getting a little bit weirded out by was just the build up of one of the scenes she watched in trailers countlessly on YouTube while the movie was being advertised.) I am sure she will love it and as a result probably have it playing a few times in the near future as she loves to watch movies back-to-back-to-back-to-back, studying them.If you're a Ghostbusters fan just watch it with an open mind. It may surprise you as it did me.EDIT: Our daughter watched it. As expected she loved it!

Awesome Reboot!
I don't know what people mean when they say that this movie doesn't have a plot. Is it that it doesn't have the same plot as the original movie? Because it doesn't, and thank god for that. The original was awesome! But this isn't a remake, it's a reboot, with its own original characters and story. I think many people went into the movie expecting it to be the original, except with four women instead of four men. And, let's face it, it wouldn't have worked if they'd done that.Hell, it wouldn't have worked if they'd done the movie with four men and tried to rehash the original. You have to play to your cast's strengths when making a film, no matter what it is, and that's exactly what the people behind the new Ghostbusters did.To summarize the plot (which is very alive - again, despite reviews to the contrary) Abby Yates decides to re-publish a book that was written by herself and a colleague (Erin Gilbert) years ago. When Erin finds it, she confronts Abby, who has teamed up with an engineer (Jillian Holtzmann) to create weapons to fight the paranormal. At the same time, a guy named Rowan (who has acquired the book) is plotting to use the books theories to break the barrier between the ghost world and the physical world and bring about a new apocalypse. One of his devices is found by Patty Tolan, a historian, who adds her incredible knowledge of the city to the team. Thus, the Ghostbusters are born. They are not an instant success. They have to overcome doubt by the general population, as well as a governmental coverup that threatens to shut them down before they've even really begun. They also have to face everyday annoyances, such as the fact that rent at an actually base of operations is too much for a fledgling operation to afford. But they persist. Without them, the world would be doomed.I love that the casting director didn't hire the most physically able women possible. I feel like I can identify with the characters, and I love them. Instead of doing outlandish stunts, they four main characters perform feats they are physically capable of doing. It gets a little hokey at times, but that's just Ghostbusters for you. It's cute, it's awesome, and it's compelling. I was a fan before this, but I didn't truly love the franchise before I saw this movie. I highly recommend it!
